We had the good fortune of connecting with Olga Markin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Olga, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have been in the medical field for 15 years. I came to realize that i can use my skills on a different avenue. I found out that people need my help with their medical bills. I decided to be part of the ones that play that role.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I graduated as a Medical Assistant 15years ago. I found a job in an Orthopedic Office where i was helping patients with their casts (applying and removing), refilling prescriptions drugs, scheduling surgeries, billing and coding, calling different types of insurances for claims denials, appeals, confirm patients’ coverages, authorizations for services…. etc. Then, i started focusing more in the billing and coding department where i was checking claims status with insurance companies, writing appeals to get some denied services paid, calling patients to get coverages information or talking about their bills. It was not always easy because seeing/helping patients daily with their illnesses was always a challenge. I had to help them not only physically but emotionally. Talking to them about their medical bills, explaining to them why the claims are processed the way they are. Giving them the emotional support, they needed was changing the way they viewed the illnesses. That gave them a positive spirit which gave me more encouragement to keep helping. I learned that even though, someone’s illness is not going away, giving the emotional support that the person needs is one of the best treatments that will help someone moving on with their lives. Helping/caring/providing emotional support are my motto. This experience thought me that, i have so much to give to the public. That’s the reason why i came up with my business where i can help people connect with your medical bills, teach them how to read, understand and be able to advocate for themselves whenever possible. So, i am excited about that. I want to help them, so they can help themselves. That’s how i want to be remembered.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
