Meet Octoburr | Vocalist/Songwriter/Guitarist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Octoburr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Octoburr, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Georgia. Grew up around South Metro Atlanta area. Moved around a lot so it’s hard to pinpoint a city that I call home. My family is from different parts of the world though. Mom side is from Panama while my dad side is from England, with Jamaican roots. I think the fact that I moved around a lot growing up and the fact that my family is from around the world, it really helped shape my perspective. Made me realize how big the world is. Makes me want to one day attain it. The more I realize that I could never see every part of it makes me work harder to see and conquer as much as I can while I draw breathe.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Anyone that knew me growing up knew that I really didn’t have much talent in singing. Never got picked for solos in high school chorus and never really had the support. Usually something like that might break a person, but I had such a deep-rooted love for music and performing that I forced myself to learn how to sing. Every day I would listen to Ed Sheeran, Linkin Park, Chris Brown, James Morrison, etc and really practice vocal techniques as I listened to the way they sung.
It was not an easy journey but I finally got to a place where I felt confident enough to share my music with the world. The journey had many hardships but it’s been extremely beautiful.
I listen to just about everything and try to incorporate it into my music. Goal is to blend pop, rnb, and rock together to make unique and memorable sounds that will last and survive the folds of time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well if someone was visiting I would definitely make sure we got to Flying Biscuit every morning for breakfast. My favorite restaurant to eat at. I love the eggstravaganza. Comes with French Toast. I am a huge breakfast person so that’s my first choice.
For evening meal, I like Char. It’s a Korean BBQ spot. Really great food. Another spot would be Mineros in the Ponce City Market. Mexican Cuisine. Really Great Margarittas.
Maybe after head over to Joystick in Edgewood and play some games and have good convo over some drinks.
From there it’s whatever. I am whatever type of person so I will go wherever the wind blows.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly at the core of it all, my family. I am typically not a huge family person. I am an introvert at my core, but they helped pave the way for me to accomplish my goals. Didn’t grow up the best financially and definitely struggled a bit but the tenacity of immigrants trying to prove themselves in a foreign country really stuck to me. Made me want to take the next step for my family line to gain a foothold and a future for the next generation to look forward to. My mother played a vital role in this. She worked extremely hard to make sure that my siblings and I had a roof over our heads even at the risk of not fulfilling her dreams and goals. I am pushing forward for her.
Other than that, It would have to be my English Teacher Ms. Weatherup. She believed in me even when I really wasn’t the best. She supported my medium of expressing school assignments through music and even gave me a book of song tablature that I still have to this day. A huge impact on me.
