We had the good fortune of connecting with Nyetta Holyfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nyetta, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I grew up in a neighborhood by the name of Kirkwood. Growing up, it was typical rundown and hood environment. Majority of us in the neighborhood lived in houses well above it’s capacity. We definitely had roaches and rats growing up.

I was raised by my father, as my mom left our home around the 4th grade of elementary school. This impacted the rest of my childhood. Being raised by a single father was tough for years. This resulted in me making a promise to not only live the life I lived growing up, but to also be the best version of myself whenever it was time for me to become a mother.

The woman I am today reflects greatly on my upbringing. I do not do a lot of things because of bad examples I had growing up. I saw first-hand what drugs and alcohol addictions can do to your body and others around you.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Activity Playhouse is a mobile learning experience that introduces your little ones to creative play. Children gradually explore their independence while building social skills, self-awareness, and self-confidence. Our mission is to inspire a love of learning in children by providing them with fun and engaging educational experiences. We strive to create an environment that fosters creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong passion for knowledge. We help moms teach their little ones at home by providing them resources to achieve the goals for play-based learning. Our vision is to be a leading provider of innovative and effective educational experiences for children around the world. We aspire to create a world where every child has access to quality education that inspires their curiosity, fosters creativity, and prepares them for a lifetime of learning. We envision a future where children are empowered to reach their full potential at any early age.

I am proud of myself for showing my kids how to overcome challenges on a daily basis. You can tell your kids it is hard doing something, but my kids get to see my challenges and struggles. I am proud to be able to show them that I continue to push and show up everyday despite the challenges and obstacles.

The answer is simple as to how I got to where I am today business-wise. I never gave up. I did take breaks to figure things out or when life was challenging but I never gave up completely on my business. And no, it was not easy. It’s never easy. Raising three kids in a household alone, and trying to start and run a business. It is tough. One thing that helped me overcome the challenges was knowing that if I keep going, I will show my kids what success looks like, and also spark something in someone else’s child to help them to develop a new skill.

Along this journey, I’ve learned that people no longer care about the children learning. Most of my challenges with this business is explaining the importance of children playing, doing process art, and engaging with them. The world is moving so fast, and we are leaving our children to figure things out for themselves with technology. We are no longer helping them to develop skills needed to solve problems or think outside the box.

I want the world to know what learning starts at birth. Playing is learning and never say your child is too young to learn something.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Have you met my best friend? lol

So, my best friend is the exciting and outgoing one. He would navigate any city better than me, so I would follow his itinerary, and then leave him to head in early.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are several people that deserve a shoutout for helping me get out of my own way to start walking in my purpose and serving the children in my community. First and foremost, God for creating a path and lane that I did not understand and did not see for myself. My father because he always showed us his passion and love for not only us, but any child he interacted with. My friends who are like sisters and my brothers for always pushing me and helping me to believe in myself. And lastly, David Shands, because of his dedication to creating a wonderful community of successful entrepreneur’s, I’ve been able to flourish in my business.
