We had the good fortune of connecting with Nydrah Lancaster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nydrah, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I think of so many ideas outside of cooperate America daily. Before I met my husband, I only knew of a 9-5 because that’s what I was conditioned to think and do growing up. I wanted to work my way up in a company and hopefully be financially free one day. After starting my career in Social Work, I was able to reach a manager’s role at my first job and thought, wow. Is this it? I felt limited and placed itn a box. Don’t get me wrong, Social Work will always be a part of me, but I felt as though God was calling me to do more. I’ve loved designing since I was a kid. My mom inspired me as she always wanted to know my opinion on how her decor looked in the house. After spending hours in stores with her every day, I think I was a bit forced into loving the art of design (LOL).
It became real to me when people actually started paying me for my design services and I was always getting compliments on my work. Mostly, my husband and friends continued to tell me how much talent I had.
When I started researching how much interior designers could make and what jobs they could have, I knew this was a field I could be innovative and not put a limit on the lifestyle I wanted to have. I could make my own work hours, work with different clients and set my own prices.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Flawless Executions is not just a business for designing. It allows me to bring out every client’s personality through their home/office decor. I create for them a place of peace and an environment that they want to call their home.
With the help of God and then also my husband, I was able to bring my thoughts and ideas to reality. I battled with a lot of anxious thoughts and fear of rejection from potential clients. Being a perfectionist didn’t help either. I have to talk myself through each project and not allow fear or anxiety to control my life. With that being said, it wasn’t easy to start. I decide each day to turn my fear into faith and not allow people to determine my destiny. I wasn’t too prideful to ask for help and sought out mentors to help me along the journey. Listen, we ALL need mentors!
I want the world to know that interior designing is not just going into a store and buying nice decor and hoping it will come together. You spend countless of hours sourcing for items. You spend even more time using your creative mind to ensure you can bring to life your client’s vision. It is a craft. It is an art. It’s a gift that requires consistent practice and learning. Everyone can’t do it even if you give them the same resources. Interior Designers are really superheroes in their own way.
I’m dedicated to my brand because I’m confident in the magic I can make. You can find anyone to design your space but my business makes you feel more like family rather than a client.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
With me living in Atlanta, it’s always a vibe! Brunch would be at Toast on Lennox. We are country girls so the Mississippi Fried Catfish with Grits would be my meal and probably hers too. Can’t forget about the mimosas! I would take her to the selfie museum, then the belt line to get ice cream and ride scooters. After that, we would hit up a comedy show or Apache to end the day.
I definitely recommend checking out St. James Live, The Battery, Ponce City Market, Apache and the Painted Pin.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God deserves the glory! Also, my extraordinary husband, Devonta Lancaster. He seen the vision and talent before I did and has always pushed me to be my best self. Next, my mom and dad, Sallie and Willis. My spiritual parents, Ashlei and David. My sister and brother (Shun & Dwight). My amazing and supportive best friends (Alexis, Nakia, Bethany, Idalis and Raven) . My mentors/big sisters Chanel and Monique with Head of the Household Interiors. They are truly a blessing. Finally, I would to like shout-out my line sisters. My line sisters (DECD) really go hard for me and allow me to even be creative in their spaces.
