We had the good fortune of connecting with Novie Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Novie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking risks is the only true way to get to your destiny. Of course many factors come into play when taking risks. Your home life, financial situation and priorities play the biggest role in whether or not you take certain risks and the timeline for which it’s done. It won’t happen for the same reasons or at the same time for all of us but I do believe at some point we are all faced with that proverbial fork in the road of life. If the risk gets you one step closer to your destiny and isn’t a detriment to your well being or anyone around you, I do believe it’s worth the gamble every time. When I resigned from my 9-5 I hadn’t been faced with a bigger risk up until that point. I knew that I needed to follow my joy and truly try to pursue a career I was passionate about. I went back and forth about it for 2 years and just like all the other risks I’ve taken in life I don’t regret it. In the past all the risks I’ve taken haven’t turned out exactly how I’d hoped but the lessons learned were worth their weight in gold. With entrepreneurship every scenario isn’t ideal and a pep talk is needed here and there but overall that was the risk that catapulted me to my higher self.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Creative Creed is a Interior Design and renovation company based in Chicago. We specialize in residential and commercial projects. My husband Jeff is the general contractor while I design the spaces from top to bottom. Usually when asked what I do for a living, I like to say I curate beautiful spaces. With a love for event and set design as well I just really get joy from transforming a space into a beautiful oasis. Whether it’s for a one day event or to make a house a home it is truly fulfilling for me and makes my heart smile.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well we all know “summertime chi” is a big deal. From rooftops and day parties to festivals it’s just a vibe. In Chicago the seasons determine what you do and how you do it. Downtown rooftops along with Hyde park festivals will definitely be on the agenda. Sunday is for brunchin and there are so many spots all over the city to indulge. Black owned restaurants and neighborhood bars are a must as well for good drinks, food and a laid back atmosphere.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband/business partner is a huge reason I am able to pursue my passion. Him encouraging me to step out on faith and bet on myself made the decision that much easier. Him choosing to support me and our family in my pursuit of happiness really did give me the boost I needed. We truly have a creative partnership that allows us to bounce ideas off of each other and come up with the most amazing outcomes.
