We had the good fortune of connecting with Norian Gillis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Norian, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My initial thought was that I would get to invest time and energy into something I loved as a teenager. I would get to transform my vision into what I desired, instead of another company’s plan. Not only would I get to build and create a prolific business plan, I would also get to watch my concept grow into an empire! This empire would one day be the legacy inherited by my children.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sydali Tresses provides top quality wig units bundles, and hair accessories while also focusing on providing an exceptional customer experience. Visiting our website you will find a user friendly online hair store that offers 24 hour customer service via chat. Buy now pay later options are also offered at check out. Buy Now, Pay Later is a short-term finance option that allows consumers to make purchases and pay for them at a future date. Offering BNPLs allows our clients to streamline their buying power during inflation; a period of time that may not be the easiest to make larger purchases.

Sydali Tresses has underwent challenges just as many businesses did during Covid. We were forced to pause hair sales for a total of 9 months due to non-shipments from overseas. This was not an easy task because there was zero income during this time. We used our time to strategize and restructure our business to adapt to the changes with our supply chain and logistics. Thankfully, we were able to persevere with prayers and patience.

We are most excited about the Relaunch of our online hair store that went live on September 1, 2022! We rebranded with new merchandise, new prices, and diversified our product selection.

We want the world to know that you can’t be afraid of challenges in an ever-changing world! Challenges are an opportunity for growth. If you remain patient and flexible, nothing can stop you from achieving business your goals.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My closest friends are truly my sisters and cousins! We are co-dependent upon each other, suffer from separation anxiety at times, and are definitely attached at the hips! If they came to visit, we would have a day of shopping at Lennox Mall and Atlantic Station, followed by my favorite sweet spot, Sammy Cheezecake in EastPoint, Georgia. For a night out, we’d visit U-Bar also located in EastPoint, a nightcap with a few bottles of wine, explore the shops at Ponce Market in Atlanta. Lastly, we’d top the weekend off with a Bougie Brunch Vibe at Garden Parc in College Park, GA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As a high school student, I began shadowing my oldest sister, Le’Neka Smith and learning the basic concepts of cosmetology in her hair and nail salon, Virtuous Beauty Salon, now known as The Cut Up, located in Oxford, Alabama. Working there nearly 4 years launched an additional stream of income outside of banking, while attending college at Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University. As both a personal banker and hair stylist in college, I can proudly say that I made more money styling hair than I made at the bank! I am forever grateful for my sister’s knowledge, generosity, and mentorship for the introduction into the hair industry!
