We had the good fortune of connecting with Noah Stenhouse and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Noah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, it came down to seeing a need and trying to use what we had. I was seeing from my travels how interconnected the world was becoming, and the need for authentic, cultural bridges to be built. When it came time to choose the medium, I picked up a camera and just started shooting. Music videos, travel footage, you name it. But the goal was always to keep it purposeful and unite it with the talents of our team.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was born in North Carolina, but I’m from the westside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My mom is an educator and my dad worked for the U.S. Airforce so we traveled quite a bit. Like we moved to Germany for a few years, visited Korea, all over Europe too.
Me and my brother were both really into sports growing, like most other kids. But learning was always emphasized in the house. Like we would go to the library some weekends growing up and I remember just flipping through all types of books, and magazines, getting on the computer, whatever was around.
Music was really big since my dad was a DJ so between him and my uncle, we got exposed to a lot of different sounds from an early age. Rap, reggae, R&b, house music, UK garage, like almost everything. While we were living in Pittsburgh, he got a job offer to go to Kuwait and my brother and I went to go live with him.
It was supposed to be for a year, but we ended up staying three and it was one of the most eye-opening times of my life. Going to school with people from Colombia, Pakistan, Egypt all over it exposed us to cultures from all over, and I think that really sparked the idea for Third Culture.
After moving back to the States, I finished high school in Michigan. From living in Kuwait, I really took to soccer and got accepted to a program in the UK to play while studying. That was another pivotal moment, and I remember we would start organizing events and they went over really well.
I hurt my knee in 2018 and moved back to Pittsburgh and that’s when I picked up the camera. Started shooting videos and the idea of Third Culture was born. We really looked at everything, the people we knew, the talents our team had and said “we can do something that matters here.” And we’re just excited for what lies ahead.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
See that’s a loaded question! I’m still learning Atlanta and wouldn’t want to do injustice to the natives here.
But if you’re ever in Pittsburgh, be sure to check out Grandma B’s on the Hill District
And if you’re ever in Kuwait, be sure to have the falafel sandwiches at Canary in Salmiya.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents and my family. Without them, I wouldn’t have the chance to travel, see the world and meet so many remarkable people. They have really laid the foundation for Third Culture to be what it is and I’m eternally thankful for them.
