Meet Noah Johnson | Co-owner & Cellist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Noah Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Noah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Huijeong and I had been playing weddings together for about a decade, though we had always been working for different companies and wedding bands. We developed a genuine love for performing at wedding ceremonies and came away from each wedding with an idea or two for how to improve the next performance. We brought these suggestions to the wedding bands that we worked for, but eventually realized that what we really wanted to do was work for ourselves. That’s basically it! We had years of experience working together in the industry and decided that we wanted to start our own business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets us apart from other groups is our ensemble and our skillset. We make unique arrangements of all of the music that our clients request, and we are able to develop and improve upon the sound of our ensemble with each wedding because our group is consistent. We all know each other well and play together often.
Huijeong and I have been playing our instruments for decades and we both studied music in college, and we think that our dedication and commitment to improving comes across in our performances. I wouldn’t say that getting to this point was easy, but the work feels very rewarding. We’ve both been musicians since we were kids, so the challenges we’ve faced along the way feel very aligned with who we are, if that makes sense.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since we’re musicians, we thought it would be cool to shoutout our favorite places to perform/see a show. There are so many amazing wedding venues in Georgia, but our favorite one is Tate House. It’s gorgeous. We’ve seen and played some great shows at Variety Playhouse, Atlanta Symphony Hall, and Eddie’s Attic, to name a few.
As far as food goes, our first year or so of Pearlnote meetings were fueled by Rickshaw Thai up in Alpharetta.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d like to thank our teachers, spouses, and family that have supported us long the way!
