Meet Niyh Love | Beauty & Makeup Artistry

We had the good fortune of connecting with Niyh Love and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Niyh, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Columbus, OH. As a child growing up I realized I was a very quick learner and willing to take on any task given. At the age of 14 years old I strongly developed a passion for hair. I love doing hair because it shows my creativity and fashion. The area I grew up in didn’t have much diversity. I remember being one of a few minorities in my neighborhood and throughout all my schooling. I realized my life could be enriched by developing relationships and friendships with people who I normally wouldn’t have had the chance to interact with. Far from where I grew up, I have developed friendships with people who are nothing like myself, but they are just what I needed. This has taught me to embrace, not shy away from, experiences outside of my comfort zone. Doing hair has also taught me the importance of interpersonal communication skills. I have been fortunate enough to have guests whose hair I’ve been doing for 4 and 5+ years. It’s been really great to watch them grow personally and professionally. It’s been awesome and eye-opening to be able to share in their experiences. Doing hair has helped me become more empathetic and less quick to judge. Conquering the fear of failure has helped me adapt to more than I thought I was able to conquer. Doing hair is way more than just about hair. It’s about making a difference, making personal connections. It’s about helping men, women and kids find their beauty and confidence, inside and out. This industry has helped me grow as an artist and a person. With some GRIT, determination, and maybe a few tears – I’m a successful, happy, thriving professional! Most days what I do doesn’t feel like work. It’s fun! I’m living my dream and following one of my passions.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a hairstylist and makeup artist specializing in services such as lace wig installs, natural hair, sew-ins, quick weaves, up-do’s, and full face makeovers. I am known for providing really good services and styles. I am most proud of the significant amount of clientele I’ve gained over the years and my progress. What sets me apart from others is that I am very friendly, trustworthy, and honest. I take my time while providing a service but still make sure to finish in a timely manner. My clients appreciate me for my kindness and patience. Communicating with my clients making sure that I understand their wants/needs also sets me aside from others. I am most proud my accomplishments. One of those accomplishments being given the opportunity to work with so many beautiful ladies from different countries and getting to know a little more about where my clients come from. It was not easy but how I accomplished that goal was through word of mouth, sharing photos of my work with friends, family, co workers, and people that I did not know. My clients played a big role in my accomplishments as well with their continuous support. One lesson that I have learned along the way is talk is cheap. Regardless of whether the client specifically asks for a demonstration in your proposal, showing them goes a long way by backing up your words. I want the world to know that I am a Jack of all trades, ambitious and driven. I thrive on challenge and constantly set goals for myself. I didn’t have the greatest childhood growing up especially having to be brought up in foster care and group homes. I always knew what I wanted for my future and knew that I wanted to grow up to become not only a Hairstylist , but a Youth Coach/ Mentor as well given the opportunity to work with youth in surrounding communities who’ve relatively experienced the same situations as myself. I want people to know that giving up isn’t an option and that you can Succeed.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to The Fox Theatre, High Museum of Art, and Atlanta botanical garden. We would go to eat at 9 mile station, have some margaritas and we would hang out at skyline park. The most exciting places to checkout would be CENTENNIAL OLYMPIC PARK and CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give recognition to my client base in Columbus, Atlanta, Detroit, and Indiana. My clients are my biggest assets. Having such a strong customer base has made my business become more recognized in very many surrounding big states and cities. Most of my clients are laid back – they trust my judgement and give me the “go ahead” to do what I think is best or even allow me to try new techniques and colors. My clients motivate me, support me, and keep me up to date with trending styles. Without my clients my vision for my business would not be reality. They have brought me a large number of clientele from word of mouth, references, sharing my social media posts, and reposting my work onto their social media. I greatly appreciate each and every client of mines along with my supporters.
