We had the good fortune of connecting with Nirvana Leal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nirvana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Since childhood, I have always thought about having my own business. I have admired the idea of working for myself and setting my own hours to have more freedom. I wanted to do something that would help people or make the world a better place.
What should our readers know about your business?
When I was still in Brazil, I used to visit the United States a few times. After my wife and I finished law school, we decided to move to the U.S. so she could pursue an English degree to expand our business back in Brazil. I continued to work remotely for my father’s international trade company while accompanying her during her studies. However, the pandemic began, and we needed to find work because all airports were closed, halting our business in Brazil due to restrictions on cargo transport for a while.
Knowing this, we looked for jobs to sustain ourselves during this period. Since airports were closed and we had brought our dog from Brazil, we couldn’t return at that time. So, we needed to find some work to stay here until things normalized. That’s when we found jobs cleaning houses, hospitals, etc., while also working at a factory producing masks for the pandemic. During breaks, we would hand out our business cards, hoping to secure our own clients for better pay.
It was very challenging going through all of this, as we worried about our family in another country and our own health, balancing work with pandemic precautions. Our shifts at the mask factory started at 6:00 AM, so we had to wake up before 5:00 AM to get there. After finishing around 2:00 PM, we would clean houses to earn extra money, unsure of what lay ahead.
During my time at the mask factory, I took the opportunity to listen to various audiobooks on business, entrepreneurship, and financial organization. That’s when my life changed forever. I absorbed a wealth of information, which reshaped my life’s trajectory.
As the pandemic began to ease, we had amassed over a hundred regular clients, and all our efforts finally seemed to pay off. Through it all, I realized that everything happens for a reason. Despite feeling desperate at times and things not going as planned, we understood that sometimes hardships pave the way for better things.
Afterward, we continued to dedicate ourselves to our company, which within two years had over 300 regular clients and more than 10 teams working for us. We stopped cleaning houses ourselves and focused on management. We also started new ventures, expanding our cleaning business to offer a wide range of home services such as handyman work, carpet cleaning, pressure washing, painting, flooring renovations, babysitting, and more.
I believe what sets our company apart is our commitment to the consumer. We didn’t just build a business to increase revenue but to improve the lives of our customers. I come from a humble background where I saw my mother work tirelessly to give me and my siblings a better life. Along the way, she encountered others in similar situations, and they shared what they had to survive. Today, through our products and services, we aim to provide excellent customer service, carefully listening to feedback to continually improve and ensure value for our customers’ money. We also strive to build trust with our customers by delivering exactly what they expect.
Now, we’re embarking on a new project, offering products and services at very low costs to help people start and grow their own businesses. We know that sometimes something simple can seem more difficult than it really is. Today, I share my story online to inspire other small business owners to believe in their dreams.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would recommend they stay in Kennesaw, which is close to both the mountains and the city. They should catch the sunset from Kennesaw Mountain and visit Piedmont Park, my favorite park. I would also suggest a lakeside lunch at The Grill Bar in Acworth and a stroll along the Beltline in Atlanta.I would also recommend some drinks at Drawbar, which is one of my favorite bars because of the view.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I acknowledge that my success story has been greatly influenced and supported by my wife. Without her, I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today, not just as a professional, but also as a better man and human being for this world. She has been with me, patiently, for the 13 years we’ve known each other, from high school until now, always believing that we can reach higher and supporting me in all my decisions. She is the gold that God placed in my path, and without her, nothing in my life would shine as it does.
I also have my parents as pillars of support! My mother always strived to give me the best, even without having the means. She worked in whatever she could so that I could have a decent life and the freedom to choose. She was my great example of strength, and through what she did for me and my siblings, I had the strength and courage to know that I could succeed too. Without her dedication, I wouldn’t be here today.
And to my father, who with a simple phrase ignited a flame in my heart and an unending desire to succeed and be better. When I was a child, he made me believe that “nothing is impossible,” and my mind absorbed that as an absolute truth, making me see that I was capable of creating my own wings to fly wherever I wanted and as high as I could. My father was the person who strengthened me and made me believe in my potential in a simple and light way.
