Meet Nila | Licensed cosmetologist, beauty educator, entrepreneur and content creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nila and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nila, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
To create and provide services and products that are more fitting for women of color. That I can say was one of my number one goals as I went on to create my own lane in what I do. I think to start your own business you have to figure out your mission and the rest of your steps will follow through.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I can truly say I’m authentically me. I’m on the journey of bringing my individually to a larger audience and I’m so excited to continue to grow and the fact that my cosmetic business Bullied Cosmetics has some new products being released very soon is exciting and I’m looking forward to changing even more persons point of view on the way they may feel about themselves, their self esteem. I want others to know anything with my co sign on it is for the benefit of their inner beauty shining through. It’s definitely been a journey getting to where I am today. I’m sort of like the girl next door so I’ve literally had to pick up side jobs to make things happen like waitress, do some professional promo modeling for some pretty cool companies, collab with brands on social media. I’ve just been out here trying because that’s all we can do and take things a day at a time. The journey is all apart of the process and I am still walking it. Still figuring things out. You have to trust God when it comes to challenges in life, God also works through people so don’t give up. No support today can turn to support tomorrow. I want the world to know the beauty Queen and I also want those who can relate,be able to relate to me. I just think one of the greatest things you can give someone is inspiration.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I’m in the Carolinas so we definitely have to go to a good soul food or BBQ restaurant. Do a spa day and just relax, try some international foods as well, maybe Greek. Go by a club one night and turn up, go to a amusement park or even a frankies or top golf. Comedy show, I love to laugh and do active things. Go take a dance class or something. Go get dessert somewhere, shopping. I would say good food and activities are definitely a staple for a good time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Family, my growing customer base, and genuine friendships play a huge part in my success and I am thankful for that support.
