We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Teagle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikki, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It was the beginning of the pandemic and I started to wonder what was going to happen next. Everything was closing and we were forced to stay indoors, I started to think about what I could do to ensure I would be able to provide for my children moving forward. I wanted to do something relatable, find a way to leave my mark. I wanted to create something that could leave a lasting impression. That’s were the idea for Iconik Apparel came from. An online boutique, my online boutique! I wanted to create something that would not only reflect my personality, but also my style. I knew there were people out there like me who like to meet in the middle when it comes to the feminine/masculine midpoint of fashion. So I decided that hoodie dresses were the perfect representation of my personality. It expresses every aspect of me! The hoodie has always been an essential piece of the wardrobe. It gives streetwear. It gives hip-hop. Its the influence of the culture that helped inspire.. Its comfortability with style that you can dress down when you’re relaxing, or dress up for a night out. Not to mention who doesn’t just love a hoodie?!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Iconik Apparel’s signature piece is the hoodie dress. That was the idea that started the brand. Since then, Unisex hoodies, and t-shirts have been added. Being that Iconik is still a baby in the industry, there are definitely more great styles to come. I am most proud of the fact that I followed through with what I wanted to do. It can be hard, It can be discouraging, but you just have to keep it going. That’s what has me here now, and with the potential to grow and reach more people. Nothing worth having comes easy. ‘

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So we are definitely in Midtown! Henry’s Midtown Tavern for brunch on the patio! Over to Hapeville for my favorite Vietnamese restaurant Dua Hapeville, they have the BEST shrimp eggrolls. The aquarium and centennial park are must sees as well! To the southside for Tropical Cuisine too. The Trap House is a definite! Skating at Cascade, basically capturing all the staples that make Atlanta what it is!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my mother. It has been through her love and support in everything I do that has kept me afloat The scariest thing to do is take a chance on yourself, and because of my mother I’ve been able to take that chance! Love you Bebe!! My boys as well. As a parent, all you want to do is be able to provide for your kids, and make them proud of you along the way! Thanks Brain and RJ for always having faith in me and the decisions I’ve had to make along the way. Everything I do is for y’all!!
