We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Bass and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikki, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work/life balance for me has changed a lot over the years. When I started my business – I was an engaged woman simply working my day job. Over time, that transitioned into being a married woman who was also an adjunct professor and now married with a child. I had to learn that I only have so many hours a day, so if I want to meet my financial targets and have more time available I have to slowly (or not so slowly) increase my prices. I had to learn when to turn it off and when to turn it on. It has become slow to learn the process, but one I embrace with each life change.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is built for millennials of color who are just starting out their career in corporate America. I have worked with a few executives, hospital staff, and educators but my target market is those beginning their career and working with them on navigating the crazy corporate world. I’m most proud of being able to help people who are already at a stark disadvantage because of their skin color. I’ve learned about the various industries over the last few years and that has allowed me to gain intense knowledge. I want people looking at Corporate Melanin Millennial, LLC to know that the career you dream of is only a few steps away.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in the city are without a doubt the Aquarium. I am a big child at heart and enjoying the day at the aquarium and The World of Coca-Cola would make my entire weekend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a few people who have played a key role in my success. My husband to start who purchased my LLC for me for our first wedding anniversary. I also have to shoutout Kay of MrsKayHillman. Kay owns a coaching business, and I have taken numerous Masterminds from her which taught me how to place my product in front of the right eyes, as well as the proper methods of engagement. I also have to shoutout Alicia from SufficientSuccess who runs my social media and allows me to gain clients directly from my social media. The National Association of African American Resume Writers has also been an amazing resource and avenue of growth.
