We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Ware Spencer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Asili Wellness because of my own difficulty finding natural resources to support me in my wellness journey. Many wellness products claim to be pure and natural; however, when taking a closer look at their products or business practices they did not align with my values. Through Asili Wellness, I am able to share natural resources that I have found beneficial and therapeutic. Furthermore, I am able to operate within my values of responsibly loving myself, others, and the environment.
What should our readers know about your business?
Asili Wellness is a holistic health space that improves, supports, and sustains women’s wellness. It is an integration of businesses, that I previously operated independently including an aromatherapy candle store, a yoga studio, and a psychotherapy private practice. After much reflection, I ultimately decided to merge these businesses and create a unified space where I can share natural resources that I find beneficial, and also offer therapeutic resources in a more simplified manner. Through Asili Wellness you can request psychotherapy appointments, find tools to hold you in your yoga practice on/off the mat, and also browse our wellness shop where we offer Aromatherapy Candles, Healing Mists, and Wellness Teas to support you on your wellness journey. All of our wellness products are organic in nature, sustainable, and therapeutic. Each of our wellness products are asili (“natural” in Swahili).
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m all about nature and experiencing foods from various cultural/ethnic backgrounds. I LOVE local businesses. I also LOVE places that have great vegan offerings. If my best friend was coming to visit, we would definitely hit up: Eat: Feedel Bistro Cafe Sababa Le Thai Cafe Sunflower True Food Revolution Donuts Hang Out: Henderson Park (hiking, biking, waterfall) Tucker Nature Preserve (hiking) East Palisades Trail (hiking) Drink: Tucker Brewing Company
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to recognize my mother. She is definitely my “go-to-person” for encouragement, empowerment, and mentorship! I appreciate her serving as a sounding board, check and balance, objective guide, and unconditional and unwavering advocate.
