Meet Nicole Scott | Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
There are a couple quotes that I like, but my favorite is about insanity. It says doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is insane. To me it means that you have to shake things up if you are in a rut. Sometimes people may not be happy, but they sit back and hope that things will change. We have to realize that we are the directors of our own lives. So we can yell cut at anytime. For example, you can’t keep going to a job that you hate everyday and just miraculously start liking it. That is unrealistic. You either have to change your attitude or change your job if you want to be happy. I love that fact that this quote isn’t technically the definition of what insanity is, but it feels very true.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I write faith-based family dramas to entertain and inspire women. What sets me apart is that I write from multiple points of views so my readers can really get to know each character. They are from different generations, so I’m proud of the fact that mothers and daughters can each relate and enjoy reading the same book. I’ve always loved reading. So writing came natural to me, but it is by no means as easy as people may think. One challenge is that I didn’t pursue my writing career until later in life. Other authors my age have a slew up books by now. I had to learn to stop comparing myself to others and run my own race at my own pace. But I want the world to know that I am just getting started. Expect great things from me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the best things about Atlanta is the weather. So I hope my friend enjoys the great outdoors as much as I do. I would take my bestie for a hike up Stone Mountain, because of the spectacular view. We would have to take a walk in Piedmont Park then onto the Beltline to people watch. If she couldn’t decide whether she wanted to eat, shop or play games on a rooftop, we would visit Ponce City Market so that we could do it all. I’d have to show her some history while she is here. So that means a visit through the AUC campuses, Ebenezer Baptist Church and the King Center. We can also visit one of Atlanta’s hidden gems, the Roswell Mill waterfall. Hopefully, we could catch a concert at one of our many outdoor amphitheaters like Chastain. Every evening I would take her to a different neighborhood such as Little Five Points or Crescent Ave to pick a restaurant to eat and grab a drink. By the last day, I’m sure my friend will be exhausted, so I would treat her to services at JeJu Sauna.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my best friend LaQuita Parks. She encouraged me to take the leap and helped me publish my debut and my follow up novel. I appreciate her wisdom and support in my life.
