Meet Nicole Johnston | Fitness and Nutrition Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Johnston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I worked for a gym in Maryland for 4 years when I started off in personal training. When I moved to Atlanta with my husband 3 years ago, I thought I was ready for a 9 to 5 job. I soon realized that I missed connecting with others and helping them reach their goals. Working a 9 to 5 also showed me how important it is to have someone that understands how to balance health and wellness goals with a busy schedule. That is my why. I want to help others reach their goals in a realistic manner with the understanding that fitness helps enhance your life, but it isn’t your entire life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I did not grow up playing sports or being active. When I first started personal training, I just wanted to be strong. That was my goal. And it still is. Once I realized the empowerment that came from that and that it is never too late to start working toward any health-related goal (regardless of your background), I knew I wanted to help others achieve the same thing.
I have learned so much since I first began in this industry; how I want to approach coaching and people, the dynamics that come into play in the fitness space, and who I want to be in conjunction with all those things. The learning never ends. And I feel like it shouldn’t. That is what makes a good personal trainer and coach.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many things to do/see so it is hard to narrow it down.
Since I live in Decatur, I would begin the weekend with drinks and tastings at Independent Distilling Company and dinner at Arepa Mia in Avondale Estates.
Saturday morning, we would begin the day at Gilly Brew Bar followed by paddle boarding. And then we would make a stop at Cremalosa for gelato.
We would end the weekend with breakfast from Hell Yeah Gluten-Free.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people I could dedicate my shoutout to. My husband. My family. And the women that I have worked for that have guided the way.
