We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Garris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is the experience my customers have with me. I really pride myself on delivering the best possible experience for my customers. I am also a very detail oriented person, so I make sure my work reflects that aspect. I truly enjoy what I do and being a photographer has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. In my case, the old saying “Do a job you love and you will never work a day in your life” is very true.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner of Nicole Garris Photography and my main focus is weddings along with some family photography as well. I think preserving memories through photography is very important and I have been interested in photography since I was a little girl. My parents were always buying me cameras, I can’t even count how many times we took my film in to get developed…it was a lot and they ended up putting a limit on how many rolls of film I could get developed in a month. I got into digital photography when I was just out of college and started learning how to edit the photos and I just grew from there. It was not easy getting to where I am today, there was a lot of education I consumed and experience I gathered along the way to get me here. I am also a mother of two little boys, so I juggle being a mother and a business owner and at times it is not easy, but I think it is so worth it being able to bring in an income doing what I love to do. Being able to create my own schedule also allows me more time with my children which is so important to me. I love the customers I serve and I am honored when they choose me to be their photographer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were to visit, I would take them to an Atlanta Braves game and take a walk through the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Since I live in Newnan (about 40 minutes outside of Atlanta) we would enjoy a dinner at The Cellar. Since I am a mother and most of my friends are now mothers as well, we would probably end up taking our kids to the Atlanta Children’s Museum and go to the zoo or the aquarium. There are so many things to do in and around Atlanta!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I had been doing photography for a couple years and always knew I wanted to get into photographing weddings. Johanna Alexandra photography out of Dallas Georgia let me come shadow and learn from her on some weddings she had. She really helped me get the experience of how photographing a real wedding day works. After I got that experience she had me second shoot some weddings for her. I appreciate her so much because that experience was invaluable and helped me get to where I am today.
