Meet Nick Yohn | Owner/Operator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Yohn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Our thought process behind creating Hook’d Up Seafood in the Roswell/Alpharetta area was due simply based on lack of options in the area. I have lived in the area for the past 15 years and there are less than a handful of establishments that promote fresh, quality seafood to the community. On the Gulf Coast and East Coast, your local seafood markets are everywhere, but not so much in the Atlanta area. Growing up on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, I had the luxury of working hands-on aboard several commercial fishing boats, docks and seafood markets throughout high school and college. I took that experience and the lessons learned to Atlanta where in 2021 we launched the opening of our very own seafood fresh market – Hook’d Up Seafood.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Early in my career I had the privilege of being employed by one of the longest operating seafood market in Mobile, Alabama. Throughout high school and college, I worked weekends and became a trusted employ with big responsibilities at a young age. Working in a seafood very often leads to very long days, at the end of which you’re tired and smell like a bait bucket…however, if that’s what you love – it makes it easier to do all over again the next day. I learned how to balance customer needs and requests, guide an undecided customer to what exactly they are looking for by answering their questions thoroughly and with my experience and knowledge of seafood. Now a days, many places seem to employ “order takers” and that’s it. Seafood is a type of product that people really want to get right. Customers typically buy seafood for special occasions, or as treat for themselves – many times our customers will come in not knowing exactly what they need, or how to prepare the seafood once they get it home. At Hook’d Up Seafood, we have the knowledge and experience to assist. We pride ourselves in being more than just order takers; we want to make the customer’s experience wonderful and worth coming back again.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out would absolutely need to go to my well deserving wife, Gaby, for all of her abundant support and effort she has put forth in “allowing” me to put my best foot forward each day. As many know, starting a business is not as glamorous as some may think. The fruits of the labor come in small doses, not all at once…Gaby is that support system I need when times are difficult and tough.
