We had the good fortune of connecting with Nichole Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nichole, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly,  it was my experience in Corporate America. In nearly every job I held, I was the go-to person for finances. My managers always utilized my talents to recoup millions of dollars back into their companies. However, when I thought a promotion was in my grasp, I was told by several bosses that they prefer I work under them because they preferred me to stay in my area of expertise. I felt like they were limiting me of great opportunities. Secondly,  I witnessed my colleagues continue to fight for a salary that did not fulfill their financial needs. One employee I knew was killed in a head on collision on her way to work, afraid of losing her job. Our boss did not show any remorse or empathy about the accident. Another employee got into a car accident where she ended up with a brain injury; it took two weeks for her position to be replaced in the cubical next to me. I realized we are just another number. I wanted to change that narrative not only for myself but for all the hard-working people that I came in contact with.

What should our readers know about your business?
Our company, Tropical Health LLC,  focuses on providing a “paradise” approach to Hospice Care. We provide quality care, support, and resources to families while going through end of life. Our company has maintained its 95% success rate with providing everything in our mission statement to our clients; and this keeps us moving forward. Our staff are very knowledgeable and have a passion for what they do. One of our biggest challenges at Tropical Health is that because we treat every client as if they were our family member, it may be hard to accept their condition at times.  We go above and beyond for all of our patients and often take a Palliative Care approach instead of Hospice. Some of my personal life lessons that I have learned in being the owner of Tropical Health, is to remain humble, respectful, and always strive to do what is right. Cutting corners will only lead to your downfall; hence why it is important to treat people the way you want to be treated as much as you can. I personally want the world to know that Tropical Health is here to serve anyone that wants a great experience with hospice care, a new approach to end of life through “Paradise”.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Atlanta is like living in Hollywood. Atlanta has several places to visit. The Fox Theater, the Atlanta Aquarium and The Coco-Cola Museum, just to name a few. You definitely have to visit The MLK center to see and feel our city’s rich history and the role Dr. King played in the Civil Rights Movement. Also, anyone visiting Atlanta has to visit Stone Mountain Park. The trails and views are calming and definitely a relaxing moment. As for eating…that’s hard.  Atlanta has several great restaurants, so it would all depend on your taste buds. I can’t narrow down one single location, I feel any choice is a great choice. I have met some great people in Atlanta on my journey to success. I am still hoping to meet more.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I would love to give a shoutout to my creator and savior Jesus Christ, because through him I get to plead my case to my father in heaven everyday so I can continue the work on this earth and be a blessing to my family and others in need. My husband, who I have known for over 25+ years. He has always supported me and stood by my side with each and every decision I make. Without him this process would be much harder, especially if I were doing it alone. My children who remind me every day of why I continue to strive for success. My mom who taught me how to fight for everything I want and never to give up. My siblings who’ve remained that balance I need in my life and make me laugh when I am stressed. My extended sisters in Christ Marisa and Deneille. We have known each other since elementary school and we continue to support and love each other unconditionally and keep each other motivated. They are my ride or die sisters. Hazel and Bonesha are my extended cousins through marriage, they’re the best thing that could have ever happened to me. These ladies have also been so supportive and have always been there when I needed them. They continue to support me and never really let me down. Lastly, but definitely not least, my praise dance sisters and my Mother-in-law who loves me like a daughter and always listens without judgement.
