Meet Nichol & Fosterchild | Songwriting and production duo

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nichol & Fosterchild and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nichol & Fosterchild, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
The most difficult decision we’ve had to make was to bet on ourselves and to believe that what we had to offer as creatives was worth serving. It takes the most courage to believe in yourself. It’s easier to put belief in others than to step out on your own. In order to better serve someone else, there has to be something tangible to give. The foundation of the person giving has to be firm.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We do everything in house – writing, production, mixing, mastering…we do it all ourselves. We are most excited about longevity and building community. We got to where we are with consistency and hard work. It was definitely hard, but it’s been a healthy challenge for us. We’ve grown and learned over the years how to be great at what we love. There are several lessons that we’ve learned along the way. We’ve learned that growth comes through healthy challenges. We’ve also learned how to seek God in all levels of the creative process. We recognize that we don’t own our creativity…we borrow it. We want the world to know that we will never compromise our beliefs for our career. We will however identify the necessities of moments, both good and bad, and act accordingly based on what we know to be morally true and good.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d definitely go to the Beltline, Piedmont Park, and definitely Ponce City Market. We’d hit up True Food Kitchen, Fellow’s Cafe in Roswell, GA, and New Realm Brewery. For drinks and hanging out we’d hit The James Room off the Beltline. We most definitely have to hit up Six Flags!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d first like to shoutout God. We know that we wouldn’t be where we are without Him. He’s literally the foundation to who we are as creatives.
Nichol: I’d like to thank my parents, Michael and Doretha Williams for always supporting me. I’d like to shoutout my grandmother Juanita Nichols Ford. She is actually the inspiration behind my artist name. When she passed in 2016, I made up in my mind that I’d do my best to honor her in my artistry. I’d also like to shoutout my high school music teacher, Sally Schneider. She played a huge role in my musical growth and musical palette. She opened my eyes and ears to all kinds of music.
Fosterchild: I’d like to thank my wife, Lyric Rachae. My parents Nero Foster and Pia Nichols, and my grandmother Vera Morris. I’d also like to shoutout Tyler Perry. He was one of the first people to open my mind to a higher lifestyle. I played drums for the Madea Farewell Tour, which is how I came to know him. I’d like to shoutout Mariah Carey. She’s afforded me the opportunity to have a platform that makes me visible globally.
