We had the good fortune of connecting with Nic Daniels and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nic, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
“Write what you know.” F**k that. Write what you like. Write what you want to see. Explore something greater than yourself. If we all just wrote what we know, we wouldn’t have gone to all the amazing places a good story demands.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a fiction author, poet, and book club curator. I love writing stories that feel real even if the circumstances are not probable, including reincarnated lovers, magical musicians, and friendships that were built across space & time. It’s very difficult and I’m still nowhere near where I want to be. Getting the right eyes to the right stories and perfecting the craft at the same time takes a lot of patience and failing.

However, I think the key is simply trying. Trying new things, trying something again, and trying even when I’m tired of trying. I think, if nothing else, that’s what I want people to know about my stories.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not the best explorer of my city. I’m more of a home body. However, some places I would recommend would be Nova Cocina and Iberian Pig for food, the High Museum for an art day, and Battle & Brew for a drinks & friend hangout,

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family definitely. Without the support of my family, half who are entrepreneurs themselves, I wouldn’t have the space to be as creative or have the support I needed to continue my journey as a writer.
