We had the good fortune of connecting with Nia Monaé and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nia, what do you want your legacy to be?
I would like people to remember me as someone who didn’t stop even when the odds were against me. The epitome of a hard-worker & fighter, I’d say. When it comes to my career I’ve met many different people who are motivated and inspired by my success, but great success comes with many trials and tribulations, and many failures. My journey as a musician wasn’t the easiest. I’ve had to beat many odds, denials, and fight against people who didn’t see or understand my vision. But with many people telling me “No”, I knew if I had no one else to depend on, the least I could do was become my biggest fan/supporter and continue telling myself “Yes”, despite any naysayers. God has a purpose for everyone’s lives and God instills certain talents and missions in our heart. I truly believe God blessed me with the ability to speak, motivate and use my voice as a vessel to bless others. I want people to remember me as my true authentic & artistic self. I am not perfect, I haven’t had it super easy and I still fall short sometimes but in the end, I am a creative who has faced many hardships but never quit and don’t plan on it. Even if I may need to take a break, I will resurface and win! My legacy will be my willpower and determination to succeed which will then lead me to establishing generational wealth for my family and forward.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My journey in music has not been easy. I have received many no’s and denials. Growing up in the DMV I had a hard time getting my name around my hometown at the earlier stage of my career. I was so different as an artist many people didn’t think I was from the area. I had a hard time getting shows and other opportunities of just being heard until one day I decided to take it on my own to create such opportunities or reach out to club promoters to get a chance at performing. I studied all of my favorite artists, began dressing and manifesting as if I was on their level and eventually things played out in a positive way. I actually have a full story video on YouTube that I did with “Story District” in 2023 that explains in full detail the losses I have faced in the beginning of my career. Here is the link for you all to check it out. https://youtu.be/d1oN8NMpapc

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I would like to give all glory to God, for without him I am nothing. God has gotten me through many of my most challenging moments and has fought many battles with me, in order for me to become who I am today and achieve my level of success. Life without God is not an option, he has shown me more times than not, that I am on the right path and has led me into the right places at the right time. Secondly, I’d have to give a big shoutout to my family, friends and everyone who genuinely supports me. As people may know, I am the youngest child of four and whenever I have a performance I can count on my family’s presence and support. My siblings always state how much I inspire them and that gives me a fuel to continue to work harder to become successful and wealthy.
