We had the good fortune of connecting with Nia Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nia, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
I’ve been going back and forth with my end goals because; I have so many goals and I want to make sure I can accomplish every single one that I put my mind to!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, and recently moved to “The ATL”, to start my journey doing professional makeup. My love of makeup stemmed from doing stage makeup during my past 14-year study of dance. However, I discovered that I wanted to choose to makeup artistry as a career instead of dance, after the first time my cousin Morgan taught me how to apply a full face of makeup to fit my own features and personality. Makeup Artists like Kevyn Aucoin, Erika La’ Peal, and Doniella Davy influence my style and work ethic. Since graduating, I have worked with several modeling agencies and known photographers. In November pf 2020 my work was published on the front cover and a full spread in Shuba magazine. I also secured a spread in Malvie magazine. I’ve have worked with celebrities and been on 2 tours. I wrapped my first movie summer of 2022 as a key makeup artist. I also was head of makeup in the upcoming new teen drama series Lake Land. I am known for my “perfect brows”, diverse skin tones, full glam looks, and natural skin looks.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots in Atlanta are tricky to name. I feel like Atlanta is like a person, you have to feel out the energy and moods before you start your adventure. I like to indulge at many restaurants my favorite one recently is Grind House Killer Burgers. I don’t eat red meat, but I still like to enjoy a tasty burger, they have many options and great atmosphere, and the fries are to die for! I would recommend a lounge that my friends and I like to go to if they like night life like me. The Spot is a sport bar but at night they play great music and sometimes have comedy shows and karaoke. Sometimes even walking through the city and spotting something you’ve never seen before is always the best adventure to me.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize all my loved ones who have supported me and all the teachers that helped me at makeup school I attended, Studio Crush. To all the photographers and videographers that gave me a chance to have the career I have now! You are all appreciated in my success going forward.
