We had the good fortune of connecting with New New and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi New New, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking has played a pivotal role in all aspects of my life. I’m super in tune with my spirit, so if there is something disruptive to my spiritual peace, I remove myself from it abruptly. For example, less than a year ago, I was working for a Fortune 500 company. Great pay and benefits. But, the structure of our department was trash. We had little to no upper management support, training was also trash because of the lack of upper management support. When COVID struck, we were pushed to work from home. The energy from my daily interactions was not only consuming me, it started consuming my home. My palace. My safe haven. It brought down my morale tremendously. I had to make one of the biggest decisions of my life which was to risk losing everything I worked for. I took that leap with the confidence that the Universe and my ancestors would lead me correctly. I quit my job without having the clientele I needed to support myself. And even though it was scary, once I did it, I felt absolutely amazing! Risk taking is just another way of saying “step out on faith”. I’m so grateful I did just that. Even though I am still in the stages of building up clientele, I have been so fortunate financially to still be able to support myself. Blessings reside in risk taking. Don’t be afraid to follow your passion!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a makeup artist. I love to do any type of makeup but the form that I most love is creative/editorial makeup. It allows me the opportunity to really get lost in what I do. I get to tap in spiritually and just let whatever is in my brain come out through the brushes and tools. I got to where I am today by allowing the Great Devine to lead me. I didn’t get here by coincidence, I was led and I followed the path that was rolled out for me. It wasn’t easy. I have had many self wars and conflicts but I overcame them and still am overcoming more. I overcame them by not stressing over things outside of my control. If I cannot do anything about them, why get bent out of shape over them? Whatever is meant for me surely will not miss me and that is a big lesson I had to learn. I want the world to know that chasing your passion isn’t silly, stupid or dumb. I did it and it has connected me with some wonderful people who have granted me wonderful opportunities. I have great mentors. I’m not a black business owner that you have to worry about being unprofessional. I’m not there just to get anybody’s money. I’m here because this is truly what I love to do. Anything that you will willingly and voluntarily do for free needs to be what you turn into your career.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them over to the Marietta Market, down to the Belt line or downtown to a open mic lounge. I would take them to eat at The Pirates Boil, Pasta Bella, Hook, Line and Schooner, Marietta Diner, Delray Diner, Six Feet Under, Casa Grande Bar & Grill. If they want to turn up we can go to a couple of strip clubs lol

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to the Universe and my ancestors for leading my path! Shoutout to the love of my life, Jerrell, who has been so supportive of me following my dreams. Shoutout to select members in my family(and friends) who continually root for and motivate me to be the best at what I do. To my instructors at IMA-Atlanta, Ren and Ebony, to my trainers Brit at Barry Beauty and Chelsea Worthem, to all models and photographers I have worked with and will work with in the future. To my baby brother, Darian, who recently passed, I can feel your spirit with me wherever I go. I promise to continue to make you proud! Shoutout to Shoutout Atlanta Magazine for this interview! If I forgot anyone I apologize!
