We had the good fortune of connecting with Neisha Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Neisha, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe a key contributor to my success was my ability to learn who I am and what I was born to do. I think when you have a clear understanding of your contribution to the world at large; it helps you to operate with a higher confidence. Self-realization allows you to make the decisions, network, and engage in activities that will align with your God-given calling.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart from others is the fact that I am a dreamer. I think dreaming is underrated and looked upon as a stagnant activity– but to me, it’s quite the contrary. There’s something very effective and supernatural about the ability to go inward into your mind’s eye, and think about what you can be and to fantasize about what you can accomplish. I started Freed Minds Productions for that very reason. My motto is that “Life’s breakthroughs are one thought away!” I believe your life can have a dramatic shift on your relationship with your own thoughts. I created the Production company to help tell stories that will change the way people think, I started my podcast “Finding Your Niche with Neish” to help change the way people think about others, and I am just getting started!
When I begin to explore telling stories through media my life changed. Learning the technical, fundamental, and creative aspects of storytelling through film was not easy. In fact, learning those facets has helped me to distinguish my creative voice, while amplifying the voice of others through their stories. There has been a lot of mistakes along the way, but who doesn’t share that same experience? With being a Producer, Videographer, Editor, and Host, there is a lot of learn as-you-go type of moments. In many cases, you don’t know what to do differently until you’ve made the mistake. Luckily there’s always editing haha! I think when you know better, you do better and that has helped me operate more effectively in past projects. I learned that every person in a production realm has something important to contribute to the end product. I learned that even though I am creative, it’s important to take notes from people who have been in the industry longer than me and to not become inflated by my own creative perspective.
When it comes to my production company Freed Minds, the goal will always be to get people to think about things they haven’t thought about and get people to talk about things they haven’t spoken about– whether you find yourself on one end of the lens, or the other. My goal will always be to evoke positive change through media.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is my favorite place on earth right now. I feel like there is so much opportunity here. I feel like the city is the perfect stomping grounds to make something of yourself. From letting your hair down in the nightlife scene at Suite Lounge, to the networking and content creating at the Legacy Center in East Point, to savoring a fantastic cocktail at C&C Social House. Atlanta is never short of something memorable to do! None of those activities fancy you? Try catching some shade at Centennial Olympic Park, break a sweat climbing Stone Mountain, or go on the ride of your life at Six Flags Over Georgia. You name it, we got it!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have played an intricate part to getting me where I am today.I have to acknowledge my husband John for his ongoing support and appreciation for my craft. His sacrifice and willingness to allow me to fully operate in my business has helped keep me afloat more times than i can count. I have to credit a few special people who have gotten me in positions to be able to gain better knowledge, understanding, and experience. I thank Aisha Thurston, who gave me my first radio spot as a co-producer/co-host, Randy Grimes who got me my first news job, Telia Rivers, who gave me my first on-screen reporter opportunity, my mom for always believing in me and my daughter, for remind me to keep going.
