We had the good fortune of connecting with Neicy Hemmingway and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Neicy, how do you think about risk?
Let’s get real, If you don’t embrace risk-taking, it’s probably a good idea to rethink being an entrepreneur. If you think about it, when you have your own business, every decision that you make is a risk! You don’t know what the outcome is going to be, but honestly it doesn’t matter. It’s the risk that you felt was necessary to move you to the next step and as long as you are moving forward that’s a win for me! Every successful business owner that I know has taken a risk to get to where they are now. Taking risk doesn’t mean that you have to go into the situation blindly; however, it does mean that regardless of the outcome you continue to push through and work hard. As I was preparing for my career, I followed my head and pursued a bachelors degree in Health Science and a masters degree Public Administration. Later, I decided to follow my heart, my passion and GOD’s blueprint for my life. So, I fulfilled my dream of becoming a fashion consultant. This year, I’ve taken several risks in an effort to grow my business and although every decision hasn’t been easy, the outcome has been rewarding. I walked away from my corporate job as it no longer served me and the amount of time I put into working for another company wasn’t benefiting my business. I also made the tough decision to leave my Florida life that I’ve always known to become a Georgia Peach. Since I’ve moved here, I’ve had so many wonderful experiences and met some really dope people. One of the best experiences I’ve had so far is the opportunity to work as a stylist in one of the most popular boutiques in Atlanta. I’ve learned that we often cling to people and things because we believe it’s fulfilling us in some way. But it’s so important to appreciate the fact that GOD has given us everything we need so it’s okay to let go. Trust me sis, it’s already in you! Don’t hold back. Go for it!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One thing that will always set me apart from others is that I focus on my niche. Being original and constantly finding new ways to develop and renew myself is what makes me different. Monae Styles is all about providing both a transformational and educational approach to styling. Our idea of success is knowing we’ve created the perfect blend of “more life, more style, more you” for all our clients. I’ve learned that when you make the decision to work for someone else, you have to fall in line with the corporate culture. However, when you are walking in your own divine purpose that GOD has given you, you shine differently and have the ability to make your brand whatever you want it to be. It’s never easy but this is the sweet spot where hard work and success collide. It’s your own and what you make it! What’s better than that? I want to be able to help others piece their brand together and find what best represents them. I’ve always been really creative and unique when it came to my style and I want people to continue to see me as being different. I only stand at 5 feet but I want to stand out in any room. I coach my clients to do the same thing with their brand. I’m also very passionate about helping younger girls. In 2022, I have plans to work with young girls who are less fortunate and motivate them to find their own purpose. I want to help style them in looks that are authentic, yet tasteful. I’m really excited about this project! More info to come!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One thing about Atlanta is that visitors are exposed to an excellent array of food choices. It’s so many amazing restaurants and a large number of them are black owned. My best friend and I would definitely go to some of my favorite spots like the Atlanta Fish Market, Two Urban Licks, or Apt4B for dinner. My best friend loves to do brunch so we would visit Toast on Lenox, Breakfast at Barney’s, or The Select. We would also find time to explore the city and visit some of the museums. We are both known for a pretty selfie so we would have to visit botanical gardens for some bomb outdoor pictures. Also, the girls’ weekend would not be complete without a spa day and a little shopping so we would have to slide to the mall or some of the boutiques in the area like Pressed, Akira, or Get it Grl to grab a few cute pieces. For a nighttime vibe, we would check out a few of the local lounges in the area like Rose bar or Lily’s.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All of the credit for the growth of my business goes to GOD! I definitely want to recognize my mom, dad, grandmother, aunt and other close family members for continuously supporting me through all my decisions, even those that they may not understand. I also want to recognize my close friends for all of their support as well. I have the BEST village! The people in my circle are rooting for my success and I can’t thank them enough for all the love and support!
