We had the good fortune of connecting with Neek Hines and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Neek, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Initially, when I first began doing locs, it was just a side hustle. If you would have told me years ago that I would be doing locs, I wouldn’t have believed you. It was never something I planned for my life. So, when the journey began, I realized how natural it came to me, and then I realized how much i loved it. As I began to gain clientele it was a no brainer to create a real true business in the profession. I never wanted to be like another stylist though. I always aimed to do things different from the others.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is LBN Naturals LLC. Previously known as LocsByNeek LLC. My business is dedicated to individuals who have locs and scalp issues. I got where I am today simply because I was consistent with my work, consistent with my social media presence, and consistent with my professionalism. It was not easy at all. I overcame a lot of things that were supposed to hold me back but I’m a natural born risk taker and I’m head strong. I just knew that if didn’t give it my all to at least see how it would be or how it would turn out, I knew I would regret it and I couldn’t live that way. I overcame my challenges by staying humble and keeping my eye on the main goal. One of the main lessons I’ve learned along the way is to get rid of distractions asap. On any journey to success comes distractions. if a distraction isn’t eliminated immediately, it will throw you off your course big time. It can hold you back. Another really big lesson I’ve learned is to trust myself. Trust my intuition. And last but not least another lesson was letting go. At the beginning, you have so many people that wants to take that journey with you, but I learned that everyone can’t go. Everyone and every thing have it purpose and its season. Let go and keep moving. One thing I would love for the world to know about my brand is that it was built with love, authenticity, and it was built to make a difference.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I want to recognize God. If hadn’t surrendered to him and allowed him to lead my steps I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today. Also, a big shoutout to my brother Mont Hood because he is the reason, I even started doing locs. he was my first ever client. My kids, Shanayzia and Izaiah. They are my reason to keep going! My sister Shawn Hines. She has been my backbone throughout my entire journey. Thats one person I have never had to question. I know she will always be there to protect me, wipe my tears, and to give me a shoulder to lean on. My family. they have been a huge support system for me. My city, the 252, they really put me on the map! And last but not least shoutout to Notorious BIG. His song Juicy has always been my motivation song!
