We had the good fortune of connecting with Nayoka Simone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nayoka, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My career was launched due to being placed in a very life changing situation. After experiencing a bad divorce, having to start life over again along with becoming a single parent it was then i discovered who god had destined for me to become. I had no idea that having to move and designing my new home would’ve been the beginning of a new journey in becoming an entrepreneur. I was taking my stress out in designing a home for myself and my children to make things comfo7enough were i didn’t want them to lose a beat of having a designed functional lifestyle. Som it was at that point along with friends who loved my home that they encouraged me to become an interior designer. I had to stop and pray asking good yo become my navigational tool if it was something that he wanted me to do. After praying daily and once i heard his voice affirming that if i did this he would guide me along the way. Especially because i had no contractors, contract agreements or business plan. But, it was gods plan for me to launch a creative career. My career started with nothing, that turned into me becoming an author, award winning designer, being featured on television and so much more.
So, to anyone reading this execute your faith and follow your heart to pursue your life’s purpose. O one said it’ll be easy but it’s worth it when you’re willing to let go and let GOD!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to a really nice restaurant, museum, and we would attend home markets because most of my friends enjoy what I do. In addition, they love when I give them tips about elevating the aesthetics in their home. But of course we’ve gotta have some girl time so why not toast yo the good life especially during these tough times. My friends and I value one another and building a strong friendship circle us a part of the journey.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Becoming a successful entrepreneur doesn’t just happen alone. We all know there’s no “I” in team. Therefore, I’d like to thank my sisters, close friends and family for always supporting me and pushing me to be better. I’m also grateful to my team of contractors and my IG family for engaging with me and utilizing our design services to elevate their home.
