We had the good fortune of connecting with Naymoni Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Naymoni, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business happened young. I was surrounded by business owners who ALWAYS made it happen, no matter the obstacle they were facing, personally or professionally. And once I found my passion for hair, it just made sense. I wanted to monetize the talent i had but also help my people by providing the best affordable prices for the most luxury, “instagram influenced” styles you could imagine

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m not sure where to start. I believe there’s many things that set me apart from other braiders. First and foremost, what keeps my clients coming back is the speed. I can finish an entire head of small braids in 4 hours. At the same time you’re getting precision and cleanliness. I’ve dealt with many challenges, in life and in business but I’ve always told people ‘I’ve had a plan for my life since i was 6’. And that’s no joke, i wrote down all goals i wanted to achieve & no matter what i’ll make it happen. and so far, we’re on track. More than anything, being a business owner has taught me how important patience and hard work is. I STILL work 7 days a week, 12 hours a day if i have to. The determination to be great will push you farther than you’ve ever imagined. I want people to know that CarvedByNayy is for the people by the people. My prices are for working moms, college students, even the corporate girlies. my biggest reason for this was to help people. No need to pay a car note for your hair. Just come see me!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Personally my favorite place to go is Tattooz & Booz. It’s a 21+ location, as we should know by the name. But the vibe is amazing. my favorite restaurant is anywhere with pasta. Definitely a pasta bandit lol. Otherwise, i spend my off days playing with a mannequin.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I started taking hair seriously, I was just like any young man entrepreneur, just taking clients in my living room. I eventually got as given an opportunity to utilize a suite in a building from a woman named Tasha with ‘A little smitten’ embroidery. unfortunately, Covid took an impact on her business and she eventually left the building, which is now my SALON location. I’m forever grateful and indebted to her.
