Meet Nathan Blackburn: Multimedia Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathan Blackburn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathan, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
If you’re not taking risks, then you’re not living a fulfilling life and working in a fulfilling career. That’s just point blank, period. Something I had to learn the hard way, like a lot of us do, is that no one can truly look out for you the way that you should be, or can make any decisions for you. Only you can do that. The fallout from making a bad choice or taking a big risk can be just as beneficial as anything ‘positive’ that’s gained. At the end of the day, it’s all about perspective.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My forms of art are the stories that I’ve written, the scripts that I’ve brought to the screen, each radio show that I’ve recorded. My ‘brand,’ I guess you could call it, is all about broadcasting stories across different mediums. It definitely wasn’t easy, and it still hasn’t been easy. I’ve had to pick myself back up from a lot of heavy physical, emotional and financial burdens. A lesson learned from my senior year of undergrad, was that, if your instincts ever give you a bad feeling about someone, even if you have to see them every day, always trust that instinct. 99% of the time, those feelings will be right, and you’ll realize later that you should have trusted them. Even so, I didn’t let those people, or everything that came my way, deter me from my ultimate goal of professional growth. In fact, I’ll be heading to Ohio University in the Fall for my Master of Science in Journalism. That’s what I want people to know about my brand and take away from my story. No matter what life throws at you, or who throws it, you can be resilient and get right back up and keep going. As cheesy as it sounds. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh gosh. My little place in Downtown Canton, Georgia is surrounded by beautiful scenery and local businesses, I’d have no idea where to start. We’d definitely go to A Cone To Pick first, a locally owned ice cream and novelty shop. I’d have us go up to Kennesaw, only about half an hour away, and we’d explore all the shops and places around the university. If we’re really feeling adventurous, we could go to Atlanta, right under an hour away. There’s everything and more to do there, as most people know, so we’d have enough to do for a whole year.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Anyone that knows me, knows that I’m all about giving props to others and lifting them up as I lift myself up. My best friends Taylor Pope, Olivia Morley, Hadley Cottingham, Rachel Danford, Ray Kennedy, they all deserve a million shout outs and thank you’s. My professors from my undergraduate studies, especially Dr. Joe Dennis and my momma Dr. Melissa Tingle (and Dad, hey Dad!). And, my mom, Paula, who has put up with my ever changing career aspirations for 22 years. There’s some people who have made really negative impacts on my life as well, that probably deserve some ‘shoutout’s’ for helping shape me into a stronger version of me. Can’t give them that satisfaction, though. This really feels like those old CD inserts that would have so many thank you’s in the back. I have so many names I could say!
