We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Gallagher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Natalie, what do you attribute your success to?
When I was teaching I noticed the most successful students were not the smartest or even the hardest working; the most successful students had a problem-solving mindset. As in, no matter what problem or challenge they were faced with, they were focused on finding a solution. As a business owner, this mindset has been transformative because it means I’m always working on creative solutions instead of dwelling on the obstacles. I have a lovely friend who’s a trainer at Home Depot and she says, “We don’t pout, we pivot!” Pouting keeps you stuck on the problem and shuts down your success. Pivoting gets you to solutions and then success.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business has two parts: first, I’m a communications trainer and coach specializing in public health clients – I coach professionals how to effectively communicate their ideas and overcome conflicts. Second, because I have an education background, I coach other trainers on how to teach and run a business so they can create real change for their clients. Most corporate trainers skipped the teaching methodology step in their career path – and it shows. Every part of my business is rooted in being a teacher; I originally thought I was going to spend my career in the classroom, but it turns out that I’m most of service in teaching others the fundamentals of teaching.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Pre-Covid I took people to Ponce City Market because it’s such a fun, diverse experience. I’m part of the vulnerable population (I’m immunocompromised) so now all fun has to be outdoors and distanced. The walking trail at Mason Mill, The General Muir, El Tesoro, and the rooftop bar at the Grindhouse in Brookhaven are all some of my favorite places.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
D44 Toastmasters International has been a key supportive community in helping me identify and develop my business. ALL professionals should consider joining a club near them!
