We had the good fortune of connecting with NaShaye Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi NaShaye, is there something you believe many others might not?
That you have to not compromise who you are to get what and where you desire. There’s a difference between growing and compromising. Growing is life’s cycle. It’s natural and unavoidable. But compromising is only a human concept that we’ve adopted, to be liked, loved and accepted. Become who you are destined to become but don’t lose your sense of identity compromising with the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most proud of the impact and the connections that I have and currently am making in the city. There’ was a time when people knew me as the supportive girlfriend of an artist. Now there’s respect on my name and my voice.

When people ask how did I get started, I tell them the answer is in the question. “I got started.” Small steps like practicing my listening and communication skills. Small steps like writing down what I wanted and what I thought I wanted. Small steps like praying and asking for direction. Small steps like reading and researching self development. And asking the right questions has led me this far.

Was it easy? Lol, no. Although it was only hard because I was standing in my own way with my head up my own tail. Which made the journey less easy. Once I said enough was enough and asked God to have his way, life got a lot more easier. It’s like divine intervention swooped in.

I overcame the hurdle by wanting to have my dream come true. More than anything I wanted to be somebody, do great things and have all my hearts desires. And I found out that it’s all possible. So no matter how hard, uneasy, unsupportive or unsure my journey got I keep striving because I wanted it more than the struggle..

One major lesson I’ve learned and desire spread is that you create your life. It doesn’t matter where you are today or where you were yesterday you can change the course of your life in a nanosecond with just a single thought. It’s possible, I’m proof.

I want the world to know NaShayeJ. My energy, my passion, my purpose and my power. To know that I was once a girl who had no clue what, when or how to do what I’m doing today. To know that I was once the girl who was counted out because I diverted from the norm. If I can inspire those battling with that same hurdle, I chose to do so. Keep going, keep going, keep going. And soon the world will be knocking at your door ready to wait on you hand and foot.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would introduce them to rock climbing, Ice skating, small business pop up shops, yoga classes, the Mcwane center, Birmingham Zoo, Botanical Gardens, a few luxury wineries and the best food around!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout my family and support system but the glory goes to the most high. I know my Bigmama would agree. I’m only able because of him. Shoutout to you, God. Much love!
