We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Correa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nancy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
In high school I join a Photography Club and learned the basics of photography. However, I didn’t pursue it once I graduated. When I finally decided to become a Dental Assistant, after a couple of years of being gin the dental field, I got bored just not doing anything and the re-sparked interest in photography.I really enjoyed working with a camera again. Photography became a constant in most of my creative projects. I want people to know I’ve have grown and I could do it. I buy my Canon D6 Mark ii. I decided to focus on photography as a career and use my skills to further enhance my work. I can’t imagine not having photography a part of my life, it’s something I eat, breathe and sleep.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At a point in my life I just wasn’t the best in photography and wondered what business I had with a camera in my hands but it was hard to give something I could never stop thinking about, even when I did stop for a couple years. My sister always said to me, don’t give up and keep growing, you will get there. I guess, I never saw what other saw in me. The greatest blessing was for people to tell me that I had an eye for photography. This made me feel like Superwomen, when I first got started. After all, if I was so great at photography, why did all my photos suck? However, it was what kept me going when I finally started to get some traction and develop some consistent results. If I had a natural talent for it like everyone said, then I couldn’t just give up so easily. So, I didn’t.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my bestie to the Battery, where we could bar hop. A painting class at Ponce Market where we are full on covered and paint like crazy and after enjoy some coffee/beer. A sky line view at the Green Hotel where the light of Atlanta glow at night and enjoy come live music.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest supporters are my family and My husband.
