We had the good fortune of connecting with Nala Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nala, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe that being ordinary is okay. However, if you want to be extraordinary and do extraordinary things, you have to take risks. Nothing great will come from being safe. If you have a dream, you have to believe in that dream so badly that you are willing to take a risk to get you where you want to be. For me, I have always been a person to dream big. I have risked so much money and then failed. I have risked dropping my college classes. I have risked putting myself out to social media and no one knowing who I am. I have risked people telling me to give it a break, and I chose to keep going. No one has the vision that you do. As long as you keep believing in that vision, the risks you take will be worth it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner of Belle Collection LLC. My clothing brand caters to Women’s clothing. What sets me apart is what we stand for. I tell women to “Embrace Your Inner Butterfly.” Butterflies represent a spiritual rebirth, transformation, and change. When women slip into a Belle Collection ensemble, I want them to immediately feel the confidence rising within themselves.

I am most proud of how far I have come. My boutique started off as just an idea in my head that I kept putting off. After becoming depressed from my grandfather’s passing in 2019, I had to do something to get myself back focused and living life again. So, I decided to dive right into it without worrying about the risks. The hardest obstacles for me were startup funds and marketing. I had no real money, and once I did have enough money, I wasn’t even making back what I put in due to lack of knowledge on marketing and advertising.
After months of failing, I decided to reevaluate myself. I invested in marketing/advertising seminars, e-books, and tons of research to better define my target audience. The lesson that I have learned is to have a well thought out plan before just diving into a business. A detailed business plan definitely helps!

I want the world to know that I am just a young girl with big dreams. But I took those dreams and decided to believe in it so much that no one and nothing can stop me from achieving it. God planted a seed in my mind that I intend to keep working towards. I hope that my brand touches people to relate to and support!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Atlanta, so there is really always something to do. First, we would probably get something to eat. There’s a lot of good soul food places in the city. My favorite is BBQ at Daddy’s Dz’s downtown. If you’re looking for something more upscale, my other favorite restaurant is Ruth’s Chris in Buckhead. I get the Stuffed Chicken Breast every time.

For Shopping, many people like to go to Lenox Mall and Phipps’ Plaza in Buckhead. It’s an upscale area, but you’ll see all different kinds of people and maybe even some celebrities. For a more low-key and less populated area, Perimeter Mall is a nice mall as well.

I like to do more fun and adventurous activities. I like to go bike riding at Piedmont Park. I would also go horseback riding at Lake Lanier.

For a Friday night, to get drinks with friends I would probably go to BQE Restaurant or Fins and Feathers in downtown Atlanta.

Pre-Covid, there would have been other fun events to go to like concerts and festivals. Some of my favorite festivals are the Sweet Auburn Festival and the Caribbean Jerk Festival. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this to my mother. I’ve watched my mom provide for my sister and I throughout our childhood. I’ve seen her struggle financially with many things. I believe that sparked a fire in me to pursue succession on a large scale one day. She inspires me to do great things, not only for myself, but to also give her everything back and more.

I would also like to dedicate this to my daughter, Love. I pray that I am able to be an inspiration to her as she grows up. I want her to know that no dream is too big. If you want it then go get it. Don’t let small minds keep you small minded.
