We had the good fortune of connecting with Nakia Holliday and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nakia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process for starting Mood Roc came from being burnt out from working 10 plus year for a retail company that i would never have ownership. So much of my young adult life was spent busting my ass, missing out on truly living in my purpose, and exhausting long hours to never having ownership as well as the knowledge of being replaceable, i knew it was time.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Starting Mood Roc was a labor of love and when you are doing what you love it dosen’t feel like work. The process came with many challenges such as building our website, promoting ourselves, and buying merchandise. With years of retail experience and knowledge i quickly realized that I had lots of learning to do. The biggest challenge for us has been marketing ourselves, social media marketing is a vital part of getting our business out to the public, being that my background is in management and being the face our company i had to make adjustment.
Our mission is to cultivate self love and expression through what we wear. It should be affordable selective and of good quality.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
