We had the good fortune of connecting with MZ RYME and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MZ, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well starting my own business “Radical Müzik Entertainment”, I had to think about what services artists need in the music industry and I came up with an idea that signing people to recording contracts was not the route I want to go because of the amount of money artists can lose with 360 deals and other recording contracts. I designed my business to be more focused on music production and songwriting. I realized that sitting down and talking with myself is I want to help people get the money they earn with their hard-work and dedication. I designed my business where I ask for a certain percentage of money for my services as a songwriter, producer, or an artist and I still get to keep my masters while others on my company will be as well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My music I believe that sets me apart from others in the music industry is that I bring an old school/new music school hip hop style that is heavily influenced by New York and Atlanta style hip hop. I am most proud of all of the music I released last year and this year alone because of my flow and story telling that is growing everyday and getting better over time. I got to where I am professionally because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. I always thought about just being a music producer or a songwriter but my two friends Dameon Black and Ty Peterson (Solo DRFT) helped me realize my art for the love of music needs to be shared within the world. It was not that easy to get to where I am at now because of the challenges of learning how to incorporate old school/new school hip hop but I learned by listening to different artists/music producers and then I would practice on an instrumental beat to work on my craft and practice different songwriting techniques by freestyling or learning how to spit lyrics without writing it down. The lessons I learned along the way was that hip hop music today doesn’t have a lot of flavor like it did back in 1990s through the early 2000s and I want the world to know about my brand & story is that my style is going to be different from others and that I can bring off a lot of Jay-Z, Nas, etc vibes to the music industry.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I live in Canton, GA, which is about 40 minutes to an hour away from Atlanta, so I would take them to Apache Cafe where we can hear some new music artists that come to open mic night (Jazz, R & B, etc.) and eat some great food there or at Marlow’s Tavern, Blue Ridge Grill, and other fantastic restaurants.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes I want to give a shout-out to my family for always believing in me and always helping me strive to be the best I can be. I also want to thank my big homies, Dameon, Ty (Solo DRFT), Josh, and John, for always helping me realize my true talent is to be an artist when no one else saw the talent I had and helped me bring it to light.
