We had the good fortune of connecting with Myron Carr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Myron, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Going to school full time or going to work full time when I was 18 years old. Life was coming at me fast and money was not coming because I didn’t have a job. By making the decision to work full time and not focus on school, led me to believe I was making the correct decision. Sometimes when you are young and all the pressure is upon you, sometimes rash decisions will be made. However, you learn from those mistakes and keep pushing towards your ultimate goal and never back down from the restraints you create within your mental.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I possess a particular set of skills where I can connect with students and also have them enjoy what they do. I am really proud of the drumline tha I started with this year. We started with 5 at the beginning of the year and ended with 17 percussionist. Years of consistency of always practicing and teaching kids in my spare time led me to where I am now. Nothing is never is this road has been traveled for many years with results being different every year. Always remember when work with kids, especially teenagers, they have different experiences and situations that vary from every different student. Teaching is easy, but connecting with your purpose and intentions means more.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Monday- Hopsmith downtown they have great brunch Tuesday- lunch at Big Daddies Hot Chicken
Wednesday- Practice with me and the percussion line to interact with the kids and show them, you can go any where. Then Bible study.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
