We had the good fortune of connecting with Myles Pearson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Myles, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important fact behind my success and the success of my brand is that I am a genuine person who truly loves the essence of entertaining. When I look at a gig coming up, or an event I am about to do I always put the customer first and want to provide a night unlike any other. My background in corporate america and working in sales has helped me when it comes to my DJ brand and business because our main goal is always putting the customer first in all that you do and providing a service that is unmatched and unlike anything else.

So with that mindset, I am always a person who provides a valuable service by being on time, prepared, providing all the customer needs and making sure they can enjoy their night. I have no problem doing the small things behind the scenes to make sure my client for the night can speak on this event for months and years to come.

I believe that is a few of the important factors behind my success. Outside of being a very good dj, having the mindset of proving an excellent service, being a nice host/dj, speaking to folks and holding conversations and giving you an experience unless any other.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love being a DJ. It’s something that I never get tired of and always love to do no matter what I am going through in my personal life or what’s going on in the world, I love music and love to create. Since I have been young, music has played a major major piece in my upbringing. Each and every Saturday I would have to clean the house with my parents and we would have nothing but old school hits playing; Earth, Wind & Fire, Anita Baker, SOS Band, Gap Band, Debarge Family etc. and then on Sunday’s would spend all day at church listening and playing Kirk Franklin, Hezekiah Walker, Fred Hammond etc. so music has always been a major piece of me.

I think how that has helped me become who I am as a dj is I understand the concept of sound and how to mix and mash up something from the 70s and 80s with lyrics from today or being able to play a hit from the 90s that could make people dance today. I always want my sound to stand out and I think that is what sets me apart from others. I never feel as if I don’t have the certain music for a certain occasion. I can always make a room dance, sing, party and have a great time and my track record has shown that.

Was it easy to get here musically? No not at all. What alot of people don’t see are the hours at home of you listening to old school music or albums that many people skipped. The process of downloading songs, putting them into crates, creating tags and ques and then practicing those things to prepare for when you have a night. This business is very cut throat and a lot of folks don’t like to share their musical library so its something you have to do on your own and it takes time but you will enjoy the journey once you can do a whole night of a genre and people don’t stop dancing.

Lastly, my brand is build on the steps of faith, hard work, dedication, being humble and genuine. DJ Myles P is himself at all times, never tried to fake the funk or being anyone else. I know that I am not where I want to be, but and continually striving for excellence and greatness and will continue to reach for the next level without jeopardizing my integrity or morals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my squad pulls up for the week in LA, first thing we are doing after I get them from the airport is taking them to Serving Spoon for breakfast. After that, drop our bags off at my place them slide to Santa Monica Pier and walk around the beach let them see why California is the best. After that, go have lunch downtown at Joey’s DTLA. One of the best spots in the city for sure. Then later that night, go and have a nice dinner at Javier’s in Century City before we head to The Dime on Monday night to hear R-Tistic DJ and turn everybody up.

Tuesday is taco Tuesday so most likely going to end up at El Patron on Tuesday’s for the best tacos downtown. Depending on the night scene may go back to The Dime to see my brother Kaptain DJing or there are some nice speak easy’s that are hidden in LA that I love to attend.

Wednesday definitely would have to take my people to A Beautiful Jamaican which has some elite food across the menu, head to Venice to see some hoops and street dancing and then have to take them to Marina Del Rey for the views, and peace. And to end the night go check out my home girl Alysen James djing at The Continental for Brown Sugar Wednesday’s. She is one of the top DJs in the city and always turns a room up!

Thursday I would take them either to Nobu, Catch or Mastro’s in Beverly if they wanted an upscale dinner and then hit a party called Hood Fantasy’s downtown. Ashton McCreight throws the best mid week parties and always has people come out and have a good time. Super lit environment.

Friday would be a chill day during the day due to me djing or going to support homies, but I am for sure taking them to food trucks to try any and everything they want. Then if I am not working that night, pull up to Ace Hotel to check out Briggs and the best rooftop party in the city on Friday night.

Saturday brunch in Santa Monica at Rush Street, or in Inglewood or this spot called La Feria or Martin’s Cocina and Cantina. Elite food across the board and after brunch pull up on a day party.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to a group of people. God being the first one, due to the ability he has given me. I wouldn’t be where I am right now without God. He has blessed me over the years, been patient with me when I wasn’t deserving, provided opportunities I wasn’t able to see or imagine and I am forever grateful for that.

Secondly, my parents and my brother Marcellus, I would like to dedicate this to. My parents have provided their unwavering support since I moved back to LA and have always prayed for me and my success. Nowadays, they are sending me songs to play during my sets and telling me that this song would mix and match with another song ahah so I am thankful and blessed to have them in my life. My brother Marcellus always makes a way to come out to see me perform and never complains about the late nights and early mornings. He’s my security guard half the time and camera man the other half. I love you my brother and this is dedicated to you as well.

Lastly, there are a few DJs who have paved the way for me to get to where I am today and I want to dedicate this shoutout to them as well. DJ Chubb E Swagg, DJ R-Tistic and DJ Scooperachi are three people who have helped me still to this day when it comes to being a successful DJ. I wouldn’t be who I am today without them laying the foundation and being examples of showcasing that anything and everything is possible if you apply yourself, work hard and diligently work on your craft. I am thankful for them and for what they have done and continue to do for me to this day. This shoutout is dedicated to you three brothers. Thank you.
