Meet Myles Awai: Music Artist & Entertainment Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Myles Awai and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Myles, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want my artistic journey to be the catalyst for change. Not necessarily in a revolutionary sense, but a change in society’s mindset as to what makes up the Male mind, the Black Male mind, the Gay Male mind, and any intersection of the three. I want every community, large and small, to understand how misinformed everyone is on what makes a “man.” So if I can break down a few walls- teach a boy that it’s okay to cry, teach a man that it’s okay to fall short, teach a woman that men have real feelings too- then I feel like I’ve done my duty.

Please tell us more about your career. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My music is a blend of R&b, Pop, Soul, and Hip-hop. However, I love all genres of music and I try to incorporate that feeling of unpredictability into my projects. My biggest influences are Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, Micheal and Janet Jackson. There’s just something about that raw talent, emotions, and versatility that entices me to them. I currently finished my newest project titled, “Empath,” as well my first music video for the song, “Natural Feelings.” The video will be out November 27th on Youtube, while “Empath” will be released on all streaming platforms anywhere between November 27th and mid December 2020. I am actually very new to the game in way. I started my music career in 2019, but I’ve always loved music since I was young. I would have tunes in my head and I would write out pages and pages of lyrics and tape them on my bedroom walls. Unfortunately, my gift for music didn’t translate well onto instruments so they would only end up being tunes in my head over the years. I loved to sing though. I loved choir, but I always knew I wanted to sing my own music. I would get so depressed, even through college, because it seemed as if my dream to sing my own music would never come. I had to learn that my dreams and happiness were not going to be served on a silver platter. I had to go out and make things happen. It wasn’t easy, and it’s still not. Life is a journey and I’m learning it’s what you make of it. All it took for me was to get out of my own doubts and ask for help. I had to be open to learn.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I’m a big homebody. I love my personal space, but there’s this amazing Hispanic food restaurant near me called, Bella Vista #2. They have the best tacos anywhere! I’m a big foodie so I’ll be down to try anything new. We can hit the live music scene in the city. Cafe Circa has great live performances where we can hear our favorite R&b songs. Six Flags is always fun as well. Anywhere I can stop feeling like the 25 year old I am, count me in. Get drunk at a bar? Sure! Hangout at a park at night? I’m down. Stay at home and play Super Smash Bros for hours? Of course!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have so many people who I could thank honestly. Of course, my parents play a huge part of my fanbase, as well as my best friends. I would say my biggest thanks would be my musical partner-in-crime, Korby Bohannon. He’s the one who actually took the time to help me kickstart my career when I had no idea on what to do. Honestly, he’s one of the realest people in my life.
