We had the good fortune of connecting with Mykia Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mykia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind me starting my own beauty spa originated from not seeing many Estheticians like me, In this field for skincare. Of course There were estheticians I knew but they mainly focused on makeup, waxing and things like that. I didn’t know anyone in my hometown that was black and really correcting the skin.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a licensed Esthetician who specializes in Corrective Skincare. I wanted to get into skincare because African American women needed someone who they can trust. Not someone just trying to get there money, I genuinely want to help and educate my community when it comes to skin

I wanted to help black people overcome any skincare issues and it’s best to go to someone who looks like them. We didn’t really grow up learning or even caring about skin. No one taught us anything. And that’s where I come in.

Lessons I’ve learn along the way is to try not to burn bridges when you don’t have to You never know who you’re going to call upon for help, so be kind and treat everyone with the same respect you would want reciprocated.

My brand is Just overall health. I never go based on “clear” skin. My goal is healthy skin, because healthy skin still has wrinkles, texture, acne, fine lines and scarring and that’s perfectly okay. I teach people to be confident in their skin no matter what shape their skin is in because no one skin is perfect. even Estys we breakout too it’s totally normal. Filters have everyone thinking clear skin is very normal and concerns are abnormal. But I do everything in my power to tackle any skin concern a client of mine may have.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I never leave Atlanta without going to a strip club and getting some hot wings. I just love the strip clubs, good food, and good vibes! Life isn’t all about work, everyone needs a little fun in their life.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shout out to God, FIrst and foremost. I will also like to thank my aesthetics instructor LE Dana Cothran. Miss Dana instilled this confidence in me that I always had I just didn’t know it, and she turned me in the bad ass Esty that I am today. So thank you Miss Dana for all of your pep talks, and your ability to get me to grind like no other. Thank you.
