We had the good fortune of connecting with Mya Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mya, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Other than deciding to work for myself, the single most important decision I’ve made that contributed to my success was moving out of my hometown at a young age. At the age of 18, I moved into my first apartment in Atlanta, Georgia and enrolled as a freshman at my HBCU, Clark Atlanta University. I am a third year business student with a concentration of marketing and minoring in political science. I chose Clark Atlanta because I knew receiving my education at this specific School of Business would assist me in my journey of becoming the upmost, authentic, business oriented and successful entrepreneur that I am on the currently in the process of becoming. Moving out of your hometown is a step that most would consider a risk, however I believe, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is NOT taking risks

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Out of all the jobs I partake in as an entrepreneur, my most favorable is being a content creator. Being one that catches memorable moments, shares my advice to younger and older generations, showing HBCU college life, how I create fast and easy meals, and teaching others from my mistakes was something I was not aware that I could even benefit from. After taking content creation seriously and doing it full time, I had a realization of how to take my influence and get it across the world by becoming an author. I often indulge in promotion for other companies being a clothing ambassador, wig ambassador, and showcasing products with affiliate codes but God has shown me, if I am able to bring tons of sales in for other businesses and corporations, I can do the same for myself. From creating my first Ebook six months ago, I have sold over 1800 copies of my Digital (Downloadable) books. In these books, I teach, “How to Become a Wig Influencer,” “How to Become an Airbnb Host,” and “How to start your own Businesses with vendors lists in included.” What sets me apart from others is my Trust in God. I am never afraid to fail, I am not afraid of taking risks, and I know the plans the lord has for me. With God, I know I can do all things.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As far as support, mentorship, encouragement, and love, there are endless individuals that I’d love to give recognition to that has continbuted to my growth as a student, entrepreneur and as a woman. All of my educators and administrators in the Camden City School District that have always been believers and supporters of mine, my family and friends that assist me with finding a healthy balance between work life and fun and last but not least my parents, my creators, the ones who’ve shaped my determination of success, love and diligence.
