We had the good fortune of connecting with My/Mya P. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi My/Mya, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Greetings! My name is Mya/ My. I am a celebrity nail artist and I have been in the nail industry for almost 16 years. I wanted to have something for myself so I decided to start my nail business. I have always had a mindset of “we don’t know, until we try”. Of course in the beginning, it was scary and exciting at the same time.. You’re navigating through uncharted waters. Luckily, I have people who have been my clients for years that literally pushed me to start my business during covid. And since 2020, I haven’t looked back!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
So I have a nail business. When I first started doing nails, I never envision myself being here. I always thought I needed the security of working for someone else. But being that I was a teen mom, I wanted so much more. I wanted to challenge myself to break the generational cycle that we are accustomed to. When covid hit, it was different. The security that I thought I had, I no longer had. So I had to think outside the box. Thankfully, I have my core clients who started to ask me for house calls. I honestly didn’t want to but I figured, why not? Since then, I have never looked back especially when it comes to working for someone else. I enjoy what I do and to know it took 11 years to get here, it was God’s timing. My advice would be to stay dedicated and focus on what your goals are. Put action behind the goals and you will accomplish your mission!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love aesthetically pleasing decor with great vibes and even better food/drinks. I like places with unless options so I would say food halls. We have so many from Politan Row in Dunwoody to The Chattahoochee Works on Howell Mill. It’s so many to choice from so you can pick one and just try! Also anything on the Beltline, whether it’s a walk, bike, or scooter, it’s a nice ambience!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would want to give appreciation to my family, friends, clients, especially my children. Everyone has been so supportive throughout my career. They have witness the hard work and dedication to get to where I am at. I want to Thank them for that they do and the continuous love and support!
