We had the good fortune of connecting with Munich Dendy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Munich, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One of the major things I think outsiders are unaware of in my industry is the dedication that it takes. People look at the beauty industry as the multimillion-dollar industry it is, but not everyone understands what goes on behind the scenes. When you get into the industry everything is not going to be peachy, you have to prepare yourself for the late nights, early mornings, the slow days, and the stress that comes along with it. When you’re in the beauty industry you have to keep up with the constant change that comes with it, and I’ll be honest it’s not easy. I still have my days when I’m confused or become frustrated. When I start to get overwhelmed or have thoughts where I’m questioning my purpose, I take a step back and look at how far I’ve come an where I want to be. I always encourage people to remain focus and have tunnel vision when it comes to their goals.

What should our readers know about your business?
Bert’s Beauties is beauty brand that provides products and services that are dedicated to making my clients and customers life easier when it comes to the daily care of their hair. My brand is dedicated to my mother who is my everything, when she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer it was hard for her to get back to her normal self, and it was honestly hard seeing as well. It was at that point I decided I wanted to give a service to women that would make them feel unstoppable. When you look good you feel good, so I made it my job to make others feel how I wanted my mom to feel. I meet women all the time that come to get their hair done or a wig made and when they leave, they tell me they feel like a new person and that’s what it’s all about making people feel good. What sets me apart from others is that I’m open with my clients, I wouldn’t do something that I know could potentially be harmful in the future for my them just because it may look good for the moment. I’ve come this far in my business today by being consistent and being open to criticism. If you’re not speaking about your business, people won’t know an if you can’t take constructive criticism in a positive light, you won’t be able to make the changes needed in order to go further. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to have tunnel vision when it comes to your goals and dreams. Comparison is the thief of joy, so I learned to stay focus on my own journey. One thing I want people to know about me is I don’t stop when it comes to my business and clients, I’m going to continue to provide things that I think will help make their hair care easier.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend is visiting the area, I would honestly take her on a little road trip to some of my favorite places in Charlotte, NC. If we are going out to have a goodtime, I would take her to Stats, CRU, or Art Room. Those are some of my favorite places to go and just chill. If we are going to eat, I would definitely go to Stats not only is it a good place to have drinks, but the food is top notch, I would also take her to visit Midnight Diner they have a variety of food from burgers to breakfast to select from.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to shoutout my cousin Lashundra. From the begging of Bert’s Beauties, she has always supported me an gave me real raw advice on some of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make. She’s the reason I have such tough skin, whenever I need to talk or just need help deciding on what I should do she never tells me what I want to hear she always tells me what I NEED to hear. I appreciate that so much because people are afraid to say things because they think it will hurt you but in reality, it helps you grow, and I love that about her. My cousin is the big sister I always wanted an I can honestly say she is one of the top people who have contributed to my success.
