We had the good fortune of connecting with Ms. Andria Mayberry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ms. Andria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am a single mother of two children, as I began this journey it was very hard juggling through single parent hood, domestic violence and managing a child with intellectual disabilities. I was able to be an advocate and successful in ensuring that the lives of me and my children are productive. During my journey, many people c0mplimented me on how much of a great job I did and is continuing to do with raising my children and bringing awareness to intellectual disabilities. So with those challenges and compliments I began to realize that the gifts I have in managing and advocating I can do this for others and Ms. Berry Cares Foundation was formed.

In forming Ms. Berry Cares Foundation, my thought process was to help parents understand the imp0rtance of educating themselves to become better advocates for their children that are diagnosed with intellectual disabilities and know they are not alone

MBC is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion within the communities and families we serve.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I know personally how it feels when you think that you’re all alone and nobody understands what you are going through. I didn’t have anyone at first to help me understand my child diagnosis. As a parent when you feel like you can’t help your child, it makes you depressed because you feel like a failure. Educating yourself gives you power! Ms. Berry Cares Foundation has a focus on assisting parents becoming champions in the lives, careers and health of their children. Our children need their parents to advocate for them. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

It has not been a smooth road. Hearing other parent stories sounds a lot like what I was
going through. It’s hard hearing these stories. It’s hard on the parent or caregiver. With these
diagnoses, it’s not a quick fix overnight. It takes a lot of time to get your child on a routine and to
get everyone on the same page because not everyone believes the diagnoses.

Ms. Berry Cares is not your typical foundation outside of community outreach, workshops, and care packages; Ms. Berry Cares Foundation supports families and communities through advocacy, mentorship and collaboration with intellectual and mental health healthcare systems such as the Black Doctors Consortium and has greater interaction with the public. Ms.
Berry Cares Foundation also prides itself on its kindness, integrity, professionalism, empathy and passion to help others. We are also a team of women in power.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would first introduce them to the upcoming initiatives Ms. Berry Cares Foundation is involved in.

We would get make-up done by Fashion Facez, have breakfast a local eateries such as: Green eggs, and we will cook at my condo. For lunch and dinner we may cook or go to local eateries such as Tyemeka’s Soul food Restaurant and The Reef. We would doo some charity work and then hot the night life at Penns landing, Atlantic City and Center City Philadelphia, Pa.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would shout out first and foremost GOD for allowing me to go through the challenges and gain my wisdom, My children for making me a strong mother, Ms. Ingrid Woolfolk, she help me take my ideas and put them into reality. Ms. Berry Cares team for being loyal and executing my thoughts and ideas, and definitely my husband David Kenny who is always by my side through it all. I have a great support system and could not have asked for a better team.
