We had the good fortune of connecting with Mrs. Sekoya Burke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mrs. Sekoya, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson that my business has taught me, is understanding that Losses are lessons, and are to be treated as such. Not getting a “win” on a bid, or a “yes” to an invite, or an agreement on a contract, doesn’t mean that I have been defeated and/or overlooked. It simply means that I need to work harder, research further, and find an alternate answer/opportunity to the same topic that is being presented. This can be by way of choosing an alternate vendor, or selecting a different demographic approach, etc.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career as a Bar & Wine Ambassador is definitely a major milestone in my business. I began my career in 2002, and I have been going strong since then, without a lapse. I am most proud that other jobs/positions that I took on in addition to my career, have all taught me tricks and trades of business, and how to survive Corporate America. From cashiering in my high school years, to Administrative/Medical Front Office Assistant in my college years, sales and consulting while in between jobs, and lastly, but most important, Leadership & Training throughout it all, is what I believe sets me apart from others. Of the forementioned job titles, I am most excited about the Leadership and Training roles, which I believe are key ingredients to my success story. All of the many lessons I’ve learned along the way are how I got to where I am today.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Small cities & towns such as Rockdale County for Costley Mill Park, Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen, and 908 special Events. I would also visit the Lawrenceville area to catch a vibe at Bar Vegan 2.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are sooo many people that deserve a “shoutout” for my story, however, the most impactful one would have to be a celebrity client that I just finished a project with. She was amazingly efficient, dedicated, and extremely hands on from the moment she arrives in the building, until she leaves. She showed me that ANYTHING can be accomplished in a short amount of time, as long as you are focused and determined. She also taught me that principle goes further than loyalty, and to take care and concern when making decisions in business.
