We had the good fortune of connecting with MPresz Blakk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MPresz, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
The way you know whether to keep going or to give up is when you feel like giving up. You may feel like you are at your lowest or you may think that you have exhausted all options or avenues. Then is when you take a step back and apply more pressure than you did before. Sometimes we can feel like failures especially when we have the privilege of social media and 24hr internet access to compare our lives to our peers, which isn’t always healthy. Or maybe you have been working at something so hard but you’re not getting as much support as you would of imagined. In my experience, every time in my life that I wanted to give up is when I always succeeded. Failure is needed and is apart of success. Lack of support from your family or loved ones is needed to make you realize why you should go even harder for yourself. You are all you got and if you give up that’s it. Many rich and famous people or successful people heard many “no’s” or faced many challenges while on their journey to success; but here they are as evidence to show us they didn’t give up. As the good old saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, neither according to the bible did God take just one day to create the earth and all things in it. In that case, who are we to give up? Be patient, Believe In Yourself, and most importantly keep going. Never, give up.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I MPresz Blakk, is a versatile Artist hailing all the way from St. Croix United States Virgin Islands. I’ve been singing since the age of 8 years old and rapping since age 13. I was influenced by mother to sing and dance at a very young age. I took part in singing competitions and I also broadened my skills in my later years. In those years I learned how to play the banjo, I’d became a stepper, I’d even choreograph my own dance moves and teach them to my peers and perform at school talent shows. I am really no stranger to the stage. Can’t forget singing in choir at church, its kinda like where it all started. My passion for rapping which stuck with me until now in my adult life came after I lost my mom to domestic Violence at age 13. My life had ended. I was devastated and I even thought many times still to this day that I’ve lost my mind over it. However I am still going strong and its because my love for music helped me to find a avenue to release my pain. What sets me apart from other artist is my unique voice and the fact that am so true to myself. Many find joy in my music and I’m not surprised because I was influenced by a lot of great artists and musicians such as King Derby, AL Baptiste, and my uncle Arthur Brown all from my community on the island growing up. I was also influenced by famous MCs, like Missy Elliot, Aaliyah, Michael Jackson and Chris Brown. I have faced many challenges on my journey but I overcame them by believing in myself like as though my life depended on it. I supported me the hard way and anytime I feel lost I rely on my faith in the Almighty God and the powers within myself and from the inspiration of my 7yr old son; those are the things and people that drive me. I want the world to know that I Jahnailah Morris aka MPresz Blakk is here to make a change, enlighten and support anyone that I can. My life on this earth is to be of service to others and I am ready to make my mark and spread my message of love, enlightenment and peace. Peace be with you all.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well to be honest I am very new to Atlanta City! And woah am I excited to be here! I’ve only been in Atlanta for couple of months now so I haven’t been able to see any venues as yet. However I did move here with intentions to take my family to the wonderful “Six Flags”, “Atlanta Zoo” and the “Coca Cola Factory”.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I would like to shoutout my late mother “Jaheem Nijari Williams”. Mom, although it’s been 17 yrs since you have left my life you are still one of my biggest role models. You really taught me that I should believe highly in myself and think positive about myself always. The light I saw inside of you will forever continue to shine through me. Thank you queen for all the marks and stains you have left against my heart I will forever continue to make you proud. I’d also like to shoutout both of my grandmothers; Doris Brown and Rhonda Gittens. Doris, raised me and gave me the best upbringing anyone could of asked for. I was always fed, well dressed and well taken care of. Can’t forget if not for all of my artistic attributes, I must praise her for allowing me to take part in so many extra curricular activities as a child. Thank you also grandma Rhonda, for teaching me how to snap my fingers. Every sunday after church when we would eat lunch, watch B.E.T, sing and snap our fingers all evening. That has contributed in the star that I have become today and has helped brew my love for music. Last but not least I would like to shout out all of my peers, family, fans, colleagues and creatives from the island of St. Croix & St. Thomas US Virgin Islands (my home) that either gave me an opportunity as a artist, supported or collaborated with myself. Thank you for believing in my potential and pushing me thus further in my career.
