We had the good fortune of connecting with Moye Colquitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Moye, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
I want to be a part of creative processes for big brands, national & international. I want to earn the respect of people in business that have goals to meet and in turn they trust me to capture the best images that will inspire and grow their business. I want people to be able to look at my photography and say. Moye Colquitt shot that because I had by then developed a specific style. I want people to stop and feel something when they see my work, that is my end goal.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe in genuinely moving people (emotionally) with the imagery…cause a reaction, I feel like you must make people stop and feel something. I think this is what sets me apart from many, the level of effort and passion I put into my work and my understanding that there is a psychology to photography & certainly video. I am speaking from a standpoint of marketing and advertising. I am most proud of the fact that I decided to start doing all this stuff 22 years ago and I am self-taught. I started with a computer on a card table in the bedroom of my apartment. I remember having to lightly kick the side of the computer tower to sometimes get it to start. I am excited about where I am & all that I have learned over the years with photography and now recently video + everything I have learned about people and business. I got where I am because i decided to just do it, sounds cliche’ but it’s absolutely true… I just started walking and talking and I walked the soles off a couple of pairs of shoes in the first 2-3 years. I faced all types of adversity and challenges… I still do, that’s just what life is like, especially when you are constantly pushing yourself to be better than you were before. There have been many ups and downs, but I believe that these moments in life & in business are what make us into formidable players in the whole scope of things. In other words, I would not trade my struggles for anything, I believe things have happened to me the way that they were designed to as they continue to happen. I would like to be known for my style of art, my own unique style. I’m not there yet. I would also like to be known as someone who had a great understanding of marketing and advertising and actually helped people in business, giving them a return on their investment & with all of that I also would like to be known as a good person, someone that people remember as being genuine, humble and considerate. I sometimes don’t take jobs because I can tell that isn’t going to happen lol 🙂 In this business people have to 1st be able to recognize “art” and then they have to trust the artist to follow through on the process that makes everything happen.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people that have contributed to me but If I had to choose one it would be my step father Dr. Bruce Preston DMD, he was a photographer prior to going to medical school at the age of 33, he taught me how a camera works and inspired me to take interest in photography and graphic design.
