We had the good fortune of connecting with Moski Shai’keem and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Moski, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I would like to think that being an author helps readers and the world in quite a few beneficial ways such as gaining valuable knowledge, because I would say that gaining knowledge is immensely helpful in managing and empowering yourself and your intellect. Gaining knowledge helps you understand things and yourself much better, but also understand and appreciate others as well. I am aware that reading books is actually exercising your brain and physical activity is indeed beneficial to people cognitive health, exercising the brain helps readers think, learn problem solve, and provides an emotional balance. I love the fact that reading is helpful to the community and world, because it gives people a chance to just flat out enjoy entertainment, when your brain is well receptive of receiving information, it relieves stress and eliminates depression, which is more of what the entire world needs right now. Last but not least, my favorite thing about being an author is having readers see things from a different perspective and angle, it allows them to educate theirselves on things they may have not been privy to, or be open-minded to exploring a new subjects and themes in-depth, and I actually write for middle-grade, which I absolutely love and enjoy for the simple fact that I get to be a helping force to them perfecting their communication skills through my literature.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well I am a cyberpunk and science fiction author of middle-grade books and my biggest claim to fame is my science fiction and cyberpunk series FLINT FISHER: BOY OF THE 22ND CENTURY VOLUMES 1,2&3 and I have some kid literature books here and there, but my Flint Fisher book is what I’m best known for. Flint Fisher is a middle-grade character from a cyberpunk and science fiction book and Flint Fisher is a young 5th grader who has to leave planet Earth to go to school on planet Jupiter, because his mom waited entirely too late to register him for school on planet Earth causing him to miss the registration deadline and resulting in him boarding up on a saucer spacecraft to fly through the solar system to planet Jupiter. Once Flint Fisher arrives on planet Jupiter he is met with challenges head on and is trying his best to navigate in a brand new life, brand new world, and brand new planet that is full of artificial intelligence, high quality technology, interplanetary warfare, manipulation, and conflicted authority. Once I released Flint Fisher, the book received some great reviews and I was able to do a lot with it like for instance, Flint Fisher partnered with Herbalife and even got a body fuel energy tea named after him in honor of the book, and I also were able to get the flint fisher series into the Istation academic learning program that enhances students ability in subjects such as math, reading, speaking English, writing, and more. I am very proud of the things I were/am able to do with my cyberpunk middle-grade book, and Volume 4 will be out pretty soon, but I am currently gearing up to release my code red collection of middle-grade books, which consists of 3 books with a sense of urgency of topics and I am so happy to share this side of me through my literature, because my code red collection deals with some pretty heavy topics that I have yet to expound on and what better way to expound on global issues and topics through my art and literature. The 3 titles are 1. Raggedy Anne
2. When Punks Pick Up Guns
3. Angry Adam

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am in the process of relocating to a tropical destination, so I would definitely take them to the beach on the first day with some good fruits, good vibes, and good coconut rum, because I myself love coconut rum, and I would take a dive into the water, because I AM A MAMI WATA child and love the water, I’m not one of those people who goes to the beach and look cute and kick my feet in the water and sand, I LIKES to go for an actual swim in the water. I think in my past life I was either a sea creature or fisherman by the sea, I do know that my zodiac sign animal is the sea goat, maybe that has something to do with it. On the second day of the trip I would take my best friend out to eat to a vegan restaurant (because I am vegan) and if they wasn’t feeling that, then I would definitely take them to a Japanese restaurant, I just can’t get enough of Japanese food, rice, vegetable sushi, and the ginger sauce. On the third day I would take my best friend to a bookstore just to see where my best friend head is at by seeing which book they choose to purchase, I love getting to know people or where are they heads at by seeing what book are they currently reading. On the fourth day I would choose to do an activity that serves both me and my best friend, and that would probably be something like a jiu jitsu class to relieve some life stress or a fun attraction like buying tickets to view a art gallery with meaningful art. On the fifth day I would definitely just sit, chill, and discuss life and some life goals with my best friend to get a clearer understanding of our lives. On the sixth day I would definitely have to hit up the night scene just to let loose with my best friend and make memories. On the seventh day my best friend leaves and goes home, Yay!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would first like to give the biggest shoutout to my loving and encouraging mother. My mom has been standing by my side all of my life supporting me, my dreams, and anything else I would go for in life. My mom is the definition of a team player when it comes to me, my books, and my dreams. From the time I was a child, my mom would spend her money and time to make sure I was in the best schools, academic programs, youth programs, sports, community organizations, etc.. While being a single mother of two kids, my mom managed to provide her best self to me and my younger sister and the way I think my mom best communicates with me is by being a mother by her child side willing and ready to endure whatever just to make sure a smile is on my face and peace is in my heart, and I am forever thankful to have my mom in my life still supporting me and all of my dreams, she is my biggest shoutout! I would love to send a special shoutout to my supporters and people who have purchased my books from my middle-grade SciFi series ‘Flint Fisher: Boy Of The 22nd Century’ volumes 1,2,&3, to my upcoming Code red collection that’ll be available spring of 2023. I also have a virtual bookclub, a Georgia region, and Tampa, FL region with students and parents where we virtually meet on zoom three times a month to read, discuss in-depth, have fun, rave over other books and authors, and be literacy advocates for the communities. My bookclub is called ‘THE ELITE READERS’ and I want to give them a special shoutout, because they truly lift my spirits up every time we meet and I am so deeply inspired by them all, they all have bright personalities, big dreams, great work ethic, and they’re ELITE! The Elite Readers are all different students that come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, some are in public schools, some charter, some private, and a few catholic and the most important thing all of my students share together is their big hearts and love for books and literacy, they are all truly deserving of everything beautiful in life.
