Meet Morgane | Logo & Brand Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgane, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After finishing my photography course in 2018, I felt lost. Photography didn’t fulfil me anymore, so I decided to take my mum’s advice and pursue an apprenticeship instead of going to university. I ended up working in a school finance office, which didn’t seem to be the right fit for my creative side.
My manager noticed my Adobe skills on my CV and asked me to design the school prospectus. The feedback I received was positive and I was approached by other staff to create marketing materials and resources for classrooms. At that point I became passionate about graphic design.
I then shared my work on social media and soon after, I was contacted by House of Urbanite, to design flyers for their shop. They were very impressed with my designs and encouraged me to pursue my own business. At first, I wasn’t confident in my skills so I decided to launch my clothing line, but after 3 months I realised my true passion was in designing.
I decided to focus on what I loved and started my design page in 2021. It has been the best decision I’ve ever made.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my design journey as a side hustle in 2021, offering a range of services from cover art, logos, and menu designs. At first, I was unsure of my direction and just went with the flow. I worked with various clients, from artists to businesses, but realised I needed to find a niche.
By 2023, I was getting offers from design agencies, but I wasn’t ready to give up my business. 2024 was a big year of growth. While reading the Diary of a CEO by Steven Bartlett in the summer, a quote really stood out to me: “Comfortable and easy are short-term friends but long-term enemies. If you’re looking for growth, choose a challenge.” Inspired by that, I decided to take on a 20-day logo challenge, even though I knew it wouldn’t be easy. The challenge pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me realise that my style is urban, bold, and non-traditional branding. Seeing how well these designs were received it gave me the confidence to fully embrace my niche.
What I’ve learned along the way is that success comes from being true to yourself. It hasn’t been easy, there were moments of doubt but taking risks and embracing challenges were key.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Day 1: Exploring Wynwood
We’d kick off the trip in Wynwood, famous for its stunning street art. We’d spend the day walking through the neighborhood, snapping photos, and taking in the creativity. The area also has amazing galleries and unique shops, so there’s always something new to discover.
Day 2: Ocean Drive & South Beach
The next day, we’d head to the iconic Ocean Drive in South Beach. We’d relax on the sandy beaches, enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, and have a seafood lunch at Joe’s Stone Crab.
Day 3: Networking in Wynwood
To wrap up the trip, we’d return to Wynwood, where the mix of entrepreneurs, artists, and creatives makes it a great spot to network. We’d spend the day at places like Panther Coffee, meeting people, exchanging ideas, and taking in the inspiring street art and energetic vibe of the area.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to two important people in my journey. First, my manager, Makeda, who gave me the opportunity to design the school prospectus and believed in my potential. Not only did she give me the chance to explore my creativity, but she also invested in me by purchasing a graphic design course during my apprenticeship, which helped me build the skills I needed to pursue this path.
I also want to thank House of Urbanite, who always encouraged me to take the leap and start my own business. They were the one who first planted the seed.
