We had the good fortune of connecting with MoonRokk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MoonRokk, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been making music since I was young and I always knew I wanted to be an artist/producer. I had a lot of mutual friends in the area that needed beats to record on so naturally I started selling my beats to local artists and friends.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love music. I started playing guitar when I was about 12 years old. I taught myself how to play basic patterns on my friend’s drum set when I started high school. My mom and dad put me on to a variety of genres growing up. Riding in our car you would hear everything from the Smashing Pumpkins or Nirvana to Luther Vandross or Earth, Wind and Fire. I would ride around in the ’83 Cutlass with my older brother blasting TI and Gucci Mane’s first projects. I was exposed to so much great music as a kid I became fascinated with the process of creating songs. Shortly after I started selling my beats, one of the songs I produced for a local artist named Trvp Beez went crazy on Soundcloud and has since been streamed around a million times across all platforms. This really inspired me to take music seriously. I started going to the studio and I saw so many people using YouTube beats I just started telling people to hop on mine. Eventually I had so many extra beats laying around I began recording on them myself. I didn’t want any of my beats going to waste. My mission is to turn every one of my beats into a song whether I hop on it or another artist does. My best advice for anyone is to never stop creating and to not be afraid to release your art. Lastly, the thing I am most proud of musically right now is the project I put out in March called Blano Boyz. It is available on all platforms and it is my first full project. I am also very excited about the ep I am planning to drop really soon!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would probably hit the mall, either Phipps or Mall of Georgia. We definitely have to check out Six Flags, Stone Mountain and the High Museum. For some good food I would take them to Zunzi’s, Hal’s Steakhouse, Glide Pizza and American Deli. Gotta eat some wings when you visit Atlanta!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom gave up a lot for me. I have watched her go through tragedy and persevere through hard times with grace. She has taught me a lot about finding happiness and being your true self no matter the circumstance. She picked up and moved her life to Gwinnett County so that I would have the childhood she couldn’t necessarily give my older brothers and sisters. My mom and dad gave me everything they could and I am eternally grateful for it. I would also like to thank some special people in my life such as Erika, Josh, Matt, Bubba and Steve. These are some of my best friends and they have always believed in my ability to create. Lastly, I have to shoutout my big homie Jerry. He installed a cracked version of Fruity Loops on my laptop after he heard me playing the guitar when I was maybe 17 years old. I didn’t even know he did it because I was asleep. I woke up and he told me to check it out and I have been making beats ever since.
